DH's 15-year class reunion was on Saturday night. We were sitting around in a group of approximately 10 people, drinking and socializing, when one of his female classmates started nursing her 6-month-old son. Nobody really blinked an eye, since there are lots of young parents and parents-to-be in the crowd. However, when the baby finished nursing, she handed him to her husband and just kept happily chatting and drinking with her left breast hanging out completely exposed. I am not kidding, she stayed like this for almost 10 minutes before finally tucking her boob back inside of her shirt.
Now, I'm all for NIP (and plan do do it myself), but this seemed odd and definitely cast an uncomfortable mood upon the group (especially the guys, who were trying their hardest not to stare at her bare breast during the lengthy amount of time it was exposed). There seemed to be no real urgency to cover herself up, and the baby was clearly done nursing, so it wasn't like he was coming back for another round.
So, what say you MMM? Normal NIP behavior...or was this chick just looking for attention?
I could maybe buy into the airing it out argument, if she threw a blanket loosely over herself. I hate covering to nurse, but if my boob needed to be aired, I would definitely shield its view for the comfort of others.
I am going with either she liked the attention, or she forgot it was out. I am sure that seems unlikely to some, but I can so see it happening to me. At home, I forget that my boob is out all the time. And one day while pumping at a client, I nearly walked out of their pumping room with one of my boobs hanging out of my v-neck, and an unclasped nursing bra just hanging there. Thank god for mirrors!
Hmm...perhaps she did have thrush or some other type of nursing ailment (didn't think about that). It was more the length of time, which seemed excessive, and the fact that neither she nor her husband seemed to have any problem with her naked boob hanging out in front of friends and classmates for 10 minutes.
DH said that she was always a little bizarre in high school as well, so maybe this was just a stunt. Who knows?
