What ring would you want the second time around? Obviously many people on this board have been married once and it didn't work out and are embarking on new relationships where marriage is in the cards again.
So, for example, if you had princess cut before, would you want that style the second time around since that's what you like, or would you want to go with something different since it's a different relationship and you don't want anything that's a reminder of the past?
My first marriage was a princess cut ring. Now that I'm in a new relationship, and he's asking me to send him ideas for what kind of ring I like, I'm leaning towards other styles like round, brillant, cushion cut, etc.
I've been married twice and my second ring was beautiful and sparkly and I loved it. Thing is I've never been all that interested in "the ring". Hell, if he is the right guy, I'd take a ring from a Cracker Jack box and wear it proudly.
The ring from my first marriage was a family stone. It dated back to the 1800s and was "mine cut" which you don't see in current stones. It was kind of oval shaped .7 carat. Initially it was set in a yellow gold solitaire setting. After ds was born, my ring size was bigger, so we had it reset in a yellow gold three stone setting and put rubies that I had in a pair of earrings from ex-h as the side stones (so it went ruby, diamond, ruby).
BF is actually shopping for an e-ring for me right now, and has consulted me on a few things about it because he says it will be on my finger for the rest of my life and I need to like it. It will be a platinum solitaire with an asscher cut diamond. I think he is looking at stones in the 1.5 carat range. I picked the style of setting and the shape of stone. He is doing the rest (4 c's, size of stone, metal (I was fine with white gold, but he wants platinum).

I had an Asscher, it is a beautiful stone!! Next time around, I don't really care...
My first ring was in a gold setting (that is how long ago that was). I love round stones so I got another round one, but the setting is completely different. I wanted sapphires in this one!
I love the idea of incorporating different stones. Sapphire is my birthstone, and I think it's unique and something different that I'd want in my second stone (i.e., first picture in the thread).
I hear all of you who say you'd just take a Cracker Jack box ring... that's sweet. I get the purpose behind it and why you say that. The ring doesn't matter, the guy does. But it doesn't hurt to have a beautiful sparkly something to look at does it?
The first time I had a princess-cut solitaire. This time around I'm digging the halo settings, so that's what BF has had me try on. I've steered him away from the princess cuts, but I wouldn't be upset if that's what he chose. Honestly, as long as the stone sits close to the finger (not a cathedral setting) and it's in a white metal, I'm happy. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, and what I do wear I bang up really easily. Hence why I don't want anything really delicate!
I have an awesome ginormous DY ring that I got myself after I left my XH that I wear on my right hand. More than one ring to me is overkill so I would rather just wear that ring. I suppose I would have to wear a wedding band but if he was okay with me not having any ring at all that is my preference.

My first ring was a family heirloom, also mine cut. I loved it, both because it was unusual and because of its history.
This time around? I'd again go for something unusual. A colored gemstone perhaps. I also have a natural alexandrite that might be fun to reset. Who knows. Whatever it is, it needs to be practical, because what little jewelry I do wear I wear constantly.

I had a round solitaire with pave diamonds on the side, and I was a little obsessed with the whole ring thing...The next time I want a pear or oval halo if he wanted me to choose...but honestly I would be okay with whatever he picked out because he's going to be so awesome and I'm not even going to care about the ring the next time around!

I have kinda small hands with long skinny fingers so big rings look weird on me. My last right was a small three stone from Macy's and it looked really good on my hand. I hate having diamonds that stick out really far. I am digging emerald, pear and marquise cuts. Also having sapphires would be cool, even a sapphire for the main stone with diamond accents. I love love love Kirk Kara rings but they are too pricey. I'd rather have money for a vacation than drop 10 grand on a set of rings!
I had wanted an antique engagement ring. My ex husband didn't like that though and ignored my preference. I ended up with a cute, modern ring with diamonds all around. I liked it and didn't really care what I wore but yeah if I had to choose a second time around, I'd still want a darn antique! Something unique at least. I like old fashioned stuff.
