So our subdivision does twice-yearly community garage sales and we are taking part for the first time this May since the advertising is free to us, we get a ton of people coming through, and I have a lot of stuff I want to get rid of. The thing is, I haven't helped with a garage sale since I was probably 13 and then I wasn't in charge of pricing things.
I don't want to over-price and turn people away but I don't want to go too low since I know people will try to negotiate. I am going to be trying to sell a bunch of jeans (all my clothes are in like-new condition and some jeans may have never been worn but no tags) that vary in brands--things like NY & Co., Gap, Old Navy, etc. I also have a LOT of shirts I want to sell, some casual and some work attire. Again, I bought them from a variety of places--some dept. stores and some places like Old Navy, Gap, NY & Co, The Loft, etc.
I'm really at a loss for what people price stuff at garage sales. If it matters, we live in a MCOL area. Would you price all like items the same regardless of brand (like all shorts are the same price, all short sleeve shirts are the same) or would you change price based on brand?
I'm clueless and it's in two weeks so I need to get going. Please help!

I'm fine with selling them cheap. Most of what doesn't get sold will probably get donated to Goodwill and I don't bother tracking everything to get money off taxes, so I wouldn't make any money that way regardless. I figure whatever I can get at the garage sale will be fine, but I also am not going to give away four pairs of jeans for like, 25 cents total, KWIM? The garage sale happens again in Sept., so for a select few items, if they don't get sold now, I will probably try again in Sept.
I had a garage sale a few years ago with a friend. I hung all of the clothes and pinned little labels to each item. I priced 99% of my items $1 just to keep it easy. My friend, on the other hand, had piles of clothes on tables and it was a giant mess. I think I took maybe 3 items to Goodwill after the sale, whereas she had bags of clothes b/c it was such a mess.

All the same price by item and the cheaper the better if you want to get rid of them. I live in a HCOL area and did not have great luck selling things that I marked $5 ea. I had a lot of womens jeans that looked new and were originally @$100 but in the end sold them for $1 ea to get rid of them. Same with mens dress shirts, some pretty pricey/nwt and the also went for $1 ea. You could always mark stuff higher the first day and if it doesn't go, set it for $1 the second day.
Cheap! To make it easy, put up a sign that says "All clothing $1!" You want to get rid of it right and make a small amount of money along the way, go with cheap!
