So on Monday I did a 1hr/8mi aerobic run and felt really good. I went to work, picked up my kids and went to the store. I started to feel light headed in the store, and while driving home, I totally had the urge to just go to sleep. Once I got home, I did go to sleep and woke up at bedtime. My arms hurt SO BAD. I called my mom and she said sudden onset+body ache = flu. She was able to get my tamiflu by Tuesday morning. That made all the symptoms go away except for fatigue. I slept the entire day Tuesday.
On Wednesday, I slept most of the day again.
Yesterday, I tried to be better but I couldnt get out of bed until noon. But by 5pm, I was able to shower. By 8pm, I was feeling like my old self.
I slept great and woke up at 5am. I was hoping to run but I was too tired. I slept again until 7am. Woke up and felt great!
My mom said that I should not run until Monday because the flu takes a long time to recover from. But, I ate really well through my sickness. At 8am, I went to South Mountain and ran 6.5 miles, mostly very easy but did include 400x2 at my "i dream" 5k pace and 800x1 at my current 5k pace. It was 90-degrees and I felt only okay.
If I sleep in tomorrow and do an easy run, do you think I will be okay on Sunday?
I never get sick - this is unusual for me. I am at work now and I feel 100%.
This is the 2nd 5K of a point-series. I won the first one. I dont feel like i need to win this one, but I do have some reputation and ego on the line, so I dont want to bomb it.
If you really feel 100% OK now, sleep in and rest tomorrow so you don't overdo it, AND you feel 100% OK when you wake up on Sunday, then race. It should be a game time (or race time decision.
If your goal is to place, which it sounds like it is, then make sure you're in a good position to race. If your goal is just to show up and run the race, which it sounds like it isn't, then go for it. BUT, would YOU really be satisfied doing the later?
Maybe it's a good time to practice more controlled racing? Like, working on a pace that will simply get you a place where your standing in the series is still solid.

i wish i did that. actually, that was my plan! but i always seem to forget my plan. first 2 miles were great and then on mile 3, everything went wrong. got passed at the end, came in 2nd, which is fine. but i did not feel fine. i got a free massage, sat in front of an air conditioner and drank a lot of powerade.
at the awards ceremony, when i walked up to my award, i puked up all the powerade. so classy!
