Is anyone still babywearing? How are you doing this? The ergo was my crack until about 3 months ago, when my back just said "no fucking way" and we almost retired the damn thing. I tried to pull it out and use it on a walk the other day when he was giving me a hard time in the stroller (which is like 90% of the time usually) and M was NOT having it. I can't really pull off back carry by myself (as in getting the damn baby in the carrier on my back) - so I never use it on weekdays. Do I just need to get him used to it? Any advice?
Get your hands on a Beco. They are much easier to get on your back by yourself! We're still carrying and will for as long as possible!
Thanks! Do you have a gemini? I was just looking at beco vs bh oh snap vs ergo conversations online and saw a fairly simple tutorial of how to put on a beco gemini. I realized in reading this stuff that the other problem that M has in the ergo is that he is a leaner/wiggler and it kills my back so having something w/ a higher body will help (like the oh snap) - does the Beco have a higher body/support too? I believe the ergo is 14" and the oh snap is 18" with the headrest (but I guess there's no hood?)... Also, there are these cute gemini on clearance! I am thinking of the owl one (but would the orange be a little much w/ M's hair? haha!) Hmmm....
I am realizing that I really should have been trying the back carry all along, maybe I was just too lazy. I have been putting him in the shopping cart at the grocery store and after 10 mins he is already begging me to carry him. I went to old navy carrying him with me (manually) today and it was a disaster...

We have the Beco Butterfly. The baby is kind of snapped in the carrier, so you can swing it onto your back with the baby in it. The ergo is a PITA in this regard since you have to scoot the baby onto your back. It can be done (I do it over the bed or couch if I'm alone), but it sucks. The Beco seems to have a higher back, too. My husband still carries Butterbaby in the front, and it's all good. But if I carry him in the Ergo in the front, the little turd leans out so far that his head is upside down. So if I'm going to carry him in the Ergo, I only do back, or, as of yesterday, side carry (which is also a PITA and kind of uncomfortable).
Ours is light blue with two owls on it. We love it!
We have a mei tai and the only way I can get him on my back by myself is to lay it on a chair and sit him on top of it. Most of the time he loves it, though.

I have a Boba 3G. It has a taller body than the Ergo, which solves the leaning issue. It did take some practice to get him on my back by myself, but I'm a pro now. I think thedahliharpa is a fellow Boba user.

Here's what I wrote in a back carry post about the Boba awhile back:
I practice over the bed or sofa. I strap it around my waist with the body of the carrier behind me. I put DS on my right hip and put my left arm through the carrier the way it will be with him in it. Then I slide him around my back from my hip and hold him to me using my left arm behind me and the carrier as support (leaning forward or to the left). While he's in that position I put my right arm through the carrier and get it all settled with DS's weight. Then I snap the chest buckle and tighten or adjust.
I still mostly front carry. I'm not good at putting him on my back by myself, and I don't find it as comfortable as front. I stopped carrying for a while when it was hurting my back, but now that he walks most of the time and I'm not carrying him ALL the time, I can do it without discomfort.
I use a Beco Gemini and still carry him every day in it (I wear him when we walk to school drop off for H, so about a 45 minute round trip each morning). He isn't huge - only 21/22 pounds - but he is still perfectly comfortable to carry in it either front or back carry (I haven't tried hip carry yet)

I have the Beco Butterfly II. I LOVE this thing. Evan likes to be back carried now. Beco just released a new version called Beco Soleil and it's geared towards older baby. You can carry up to 45lbs! I'm thinking about ditching my butterfly and get this... BUT I just got the butterfly last October. Ugh.
I have back issues I'm currently trying to resolve with PT, so no carrying for me for a while. I'm thinking about selling my two carriers and getting a Boba or Beco for the next baby.

Yep. I carried H in it until 2.5. D is primarily front carried these days because she has a thirst to rip out my hair, even when it is tied up. If she's on my front she snuggles in or chats.

I can't hear you lalala I swore off keeping up w/ new carriers. I need to sell carriers I have not look at more. But I'm intrigued..

Me, too ... if I buy a new one, I'll have to make a third damn kid to justify it.
Just used the ergo this morning to go to the doc. We also have a Beco Gemini that I'm going to start using more if he continues to do the leaning thing bc it's has a much higher back.
I have a random Snugli carrier that I use when we're out, but he's a peanut so it isn't too hard on my back. When he's fussy at home, I use a Nigerian method involving a blanket that my mom taught me.
Beco Soleil boner breaker: the butterfly also goes to 45 lbs.
But it's newly improved, wider and more comfortable for the baby! For some reason I thought the butterfly was less, now I don't feel so bad about my butterfly.
I haven't used one in a while, Owen's pretty content in the stroller, but we're going to a Jay's game in a few weeks, so I think I'll bring along the Ergo in case he needs to nap or something. I've been pretty successful getting him onto my back by sitting on the couch. Sometimes it takes a few tries though.
