Now that it's getting warm I love running in shorts, but they always chafe (along the seam on my inner thigh) if I wear them more than 5-6 miles. That's never really been a problem before, because I haven't been running much over 5-6 miles in warm weather before, but now I will be, at least once a week.
The shorts that I like on shorter runs have a 3" inseam (Under Armour). I guess a longer inseam might fix the problem, but that sounds annoying.
What do you do - wear crops all summer? Wear compression shorts? Body glide + regular running shorts?
5" compression shorts I can wear without needing body glide...anything shorter and I need body glide but really cant handle shorter shorts for long runs
my nike pacer shorts also do not have a history of chafing me (though I might do some precautionary body glide on for long runs, high humidity, and rain situations).
unfortunately, it'll take a bit of trial and error to find a pair of shorts that works for you. ladies on here love the tempo shorts but they did not work for me at all.
I have the same problem - the chafing either comes from the shorts themselves or my chub even with body glide...Here's what I do:
regular shorts - running or not 5" compression shorts underneath body glide
I really like the Nike Pro 5" compression shorts, but picked up a pair of the C-9 Pro shorts from Target and they function similarly. I think I still like the Nike's better.
Last summer I only ran in capris now that I lost a little weight and am confident enough to wear shorts, I just purchased these from running warehouse in hopes they will help with the chub rub, for the cheap price I figured they be worth a shot

Shorter shorts (I hate when they ride up) and body glide. Body glide is a miracle lol. No chafing yet even on my half. I like the LLL speed shorts or Nike shorter shorts (very similar to the speed short) but lots of body glide!
I have to laugh, this thread reminds me of some of the posts on the old Sex and Romance board. You can never have too much lube! Or, in this case, body glide!
I had.to kiss a lot of ru.ning shirts frogs lol for mei csnt wear.short.shorts, i have long thighs and they ride up and its so insanely uncomfortable. Too long and its annoying. 4.5-5" is perfect for me.
question: why two pairs of shorts? I don't get it.
I've always thought people were being modest or were afraid of showing off their jiggly butt but I don't get it. I am not wearing multiple layers if it's hot out!
I used to do the nike pro compression shorts and body glide and it worked great for chub rub. Now, much to my wallet's chagrin, I wear LLL speed shorts (so pretty short), but in a size up from my normal size. I've found that the combo of sizing up but having a shorter inseam have eliminated my rubbing issues and I don't need the bodyglide anymore.

For me it's part modesty because the compression shorts I do own are a little thin and light, which is why I like them, but don't want anyone seeing all the business. The other part is being self conscious.

I agree, two pairs of shorts is totally unnecessary. If you go the compression shorts route, just rock them solo.

so if it's a modesty thing do you wear shorts over running tights too? what about yoga pants? I'm genuinely intrigued.
I've seen people with shorts on over running tights and I just assumed it was because their ass was cold. . .
but you shouldn't be self conscious. I'm sure your ass is fabulous.

lolz - thanks. I know, it's just the way I am more comfortable. I don't always wear two shorts. It depends on which compression shorts I am wearing. I have thicker ones that are fine as stand alone.
-In the winter yes, I wear shorts over my tights but not all the time. That is more for keeping warm though.
-yoga pants, no. I only own a few pairs and don't wear them much. I have LLL Groove pants and the Kirkland knock offs and those I mostly wear on weekends around the house, not to workout in as much.
ETA: The gym I workout in is also where all my co-workers work out, and often at the same time. I try to be a little more modest there because there are some things my bosses just don't need to see.
Compression gear in the summer makes me want to scream. SO HOT.
Shorter shorts and body glide for sure. My fave shorts are the Oiselle Rogas (they have long Rogas too) and Nike Pacers (which you have to search for in stores). Tempos are too baggy so they chafe.

lol The one time I did this, this actually WAS the reason. Plus, it was a breast cancer marathon and my shorts were the only thing pink about my outfit. It wasn't supposed to be 20* that morning. It dropped about 30 degrees over the course of 48 hrs. My ass was cold.
I love the 8" filament shorts by Nike. They're made for running and are dri fit compression type shorts. They're long enough to fix chafing without being obnoxiously long and hot. They're very light and have a drawstring which keeps them up as well as the back zipper pocket that most of the other nike stuff has.
