I don't get it. I really don't. Andrew has still been having two bottles of WCM a day - one when he first wakes up and one right before bed. I've decided that it's time to do the switch to sippy cups 100%. He does great with his sippy of water, and some days he'll drink 12oz+ of it. Last night, we gave him his milk in a sippy cup. He just sat there and played with it, letting all of the milk dribble down his face. We figured that he might not have been too hungry, so didn't worry about it. This morning, I tried again. He's had about two sips from the cup, and that's it. If it were in a bottle, he would have sucked it down in no time.
Why does he drink water from his cup but not milk??? I'm contemplating cutting the milk out of his diet for a little bit and trying again later. He eats really well and gets plenty of nutrition from other things. He obviously doesn't need the fat and calories from the milk. I guess I'm just wondering what the lesser of the two evils is - Him not having any milk or him still drinking from a bottle? WWPD?

I wonder if there's a milk+bottle=comfort thing going on. Does that make sense? I know that H refused to drink breast milk out of anything other than my boobs.

DD is the SAME WAY! Will happily drink WCM from a bottle, but the second you put it in a sippy, she refuses it. Violently shakes her head NO, throws the cup, lets the milk dribble out of her mouth. It sucks.
She LOVES the sippy for water but refuses milk out of it. We have tried EVERY SIPPY under the sun, as well as a regular cup.
Im trying not to stress about the bottle just yet. She only has two a day (morning and night) and is 100% off of formula. We are going to take the morning bottle away soon. She loves yogurt and cheese, so she is getting calcium that way.
I tried to give Matilda breast milk in a sippy last night to see. She wouldn't drink any of it. She took one sip, made a face, let it dribble down her front, and then if I tried to hand her the cup again she got really mad! WTF.
So, I'm screwed too. Daycare is saying, now she's going to be 1 we need to get rid of the bottles soon...
Yeah, my pediatrician said he'd like to see him off of bottles in a month. Granted, I don't always do what he says, but I think it's a reasonable request. It's gotten a bit better this morning. I put on a Baby Einstein to keep him a little more focused, rather than running around the room playing. He's gone back to the cup a few times to take a sip, but has probably consumed less than a third of his normal morning bottle. He's also getting milk all over the carpet, which is lovely. I'm guessing I'll be pulling out the carpet cleaner frequently until he gets the hang of it.

Tyler is the same way. He loves his water sippy but refuses milk. I have had some success the last few days using a different sippy for milk. For example, his water sippy is a nuby cup and his milk sippy is a straw cup.

Hang in there! Since weight is not an issue I think just waiting it out is not bad... You might try a different sippy, but then again that could be wasted $$

She might drink it with you not around. Colin won't touch his sippy with BM when I'm around but when the IL's or my H are just with him he gulps it down. He never had a bottle though and has used a sippy since 6 months but still won't drink BM (or regular milk) from it in my presence. Maybe she's the same way?
We are having this issue too, but I'm keeping the bottles of formula/WCM in her diet until we can figure things out. In the meantime, she's done best drinking WCM from this sippy (and by best I mean 1 time she drank 2/3 oz out of it):
and we've literally tried like 6 different sippies/straw cups. I also think she doesn't like it really cold, so I have to let it come down to room temp.
Why do we need to drop bottles right at 1? Is there a medical reason? I don't get why if it's okay to extended BF, it's not okay to bottle feed for a few extra months?
Also, I'm sure you can get a better price on that cup than the link I just posted! $10 + $5 shipping seems ridiculous for it. I wonder if it's in store at BRU?

Violet was/is doing great with a sippy and BFing but now that we've weaned I kind of want to re-introduce a bottle. I'm nuts! But it comes with snuggles AND she just sucked down a huge bottle before her nap and she would have only had a little bit of the sippy. She's so small that the calories have got to be good for her. I'm on team bottle for now.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, really. But, the weaning has to happen eventually, so I'm trying to knock it out while DH is in town and things are quiet around here. I hate trying to break habits when we're super busy because I always cave and go back to what is easy.
I think the main reason is dental, like the bottle makes milk pool in their mouth/can cause decay. But I feel like they are thinking of extremes like people who hand the baby a bottle in their crib and leave the room for the night.
I feel like it varies a lot from baby to baby. Some babies wean themselves by now/drink happily from a sippy. I know my baby would not do great if all her bottles and boobies were taken away now. If I had to stop breastfeeding, I'd probably give bottles for at least a few months for bed time. She is very attached to bed time milk and I can't imagine her seeing a sippy of milk ever as being the same as a boob or bottle.
I know plenty of people who keep the bottles for quite a while past one without adverse effects.
My biggest worry would be that as time passes it would become harder and harder as she becomes more cognizant and more attached to it... Seems like closer to 1 would be easier than closer to 2. But maybe that's not really the case?

definitely worth a try! though she will happily take a bottle of BM from me, just not a sippy. For a while she wouldn't even drink water from the sippy but has started to, so there is hope!
