Well I am a bad influence. For DS we used a well known newborn photographer so she had tons of cute props: furry blankets, cute hats, buckets, baskets, knit stretch wraps for swaddling, etc.
This time, our photographer is coming to our home and I decided to buy a few props of our own. This isn't even everything - I am out of control on Etsy.
We didn't want a ton of props, so we just had him in a diaper and did a few shots in a simple swaddle blanket.
I'm glad we went with that approach - he was such a grump during the session that it was all we could do to manage him, much less him and a bunch of stuff.

Naked pictures are some of the cutest! How about a cute diaper cover, hat, nice blanket, maybe a basket or wagon to prop baby up in. We just had a blanket and basket for our newborn shoot and they turned out great - lots of close-ups, so props don't matter as much at that age.
I wish I would have bought a couple of things for me to wear. I had no idea what would fit so I just said I'd wing it after L&D. By the time I got home, my maternity clothes were so stretched out and my normal clothes were still too small so I ended up wearing an old gray t-shirt and too-tight mat jeans in my NB pictures. Get a cute, forgiving, flowy maxi dress or something.
We didn't really do props. We just used a couple of swaddle blankets we had laying around. None of the cutesy stuff would have worked because C was awake for every single picture, so we have zero "tranquil sleeping newborn in a cute pose and accessory" shots.
I don't remember if you are CDing, but if not, you might want to get a cute diaper cover because I think disposables look weird in NB pictures.
Our photographer had a lot of props that I didn't expect! I agree with @brie to think of clothes for you- I tossed on some clothes and hate how I look.
A diaper cover is great and I was thankful she had one for us to use. If you have a fave sports team, wrapping baby in a jersey would be cute. If you want the dog in it, make sure to have special treats to bribe him with.
I made sure to get the "baby holding mom and day's wedding rings" shot that I liked.

We did not buy anything special. DS was so small that he did not fit into any of the regular clothes we had for him. So he is wearing baggy Old Navy onesie with little skulls and crossbones on it lol. I ended up loving it though We tried to do some cute diapers but he HATED being naked so that was a no go too.
I agree with really thinking about your outfit. I ended up wearing a bright blue sweater and jeans. It looks good in pictures, but I really did not feel that pretty (this might be why I get my hair and makeup done for all subsequent photo shoots ha ha).
I agree with the keep it simple approach. Who did you decide to use for the shoot?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using proboards
Same girl who did our Christmas card pictures (my FB pictures with the blue dress). DH liked the pictures a lot, and she's only $250/shoot with all the digital images on a CD.
our photog brought a few things but we didn't really want props. She mostly brought some different colored scarves that worked to loosely wrap the baby in, or lay over the boppy for some photos.
Squirmys head was to small for headbands at that point
Search FB for Barefoot Photography by Tina Doane...we didn't use her b/c i hadnt heard of her yet but she does darling stuff! tons of great prop ideas!
