I had one. They found it at my 20 week u/s. I went back for another u/s at 28? weeks and it had resolved itself and moved up. I ended up with a c/s anyway but that was for other reasons. I posted about it on TB way back when it happened and most people commented that it resovled itself and moved up. Good luck!

I can only answer the first part of your question. We didn't know I had a low lying placenta until I went into labor. They weren't really sure what went "wrong," but since the baby was healthy, and I had unexplained bleeding (barely anything though) with labor signs, they went the c/s route just to make sure he stayed healthy. At that point, they didn't want to risk a vaginal delivery or keeping him in longer. I've heard though that as baby grows, the "issue" can begin to resolve itself though. Good luck and hugs for your worries. Sorry that this is going to be on your mind.

Two stories below, the first is kinda scary.
My sister had a it with both her pregnancies. The first one it did not resolve itself and she started bleeding severely at 35 weeks. They got the bleeding under control but she was on hospital bedrest until she delivered. She started bleeding again 2 days later and they rushed her in for an emergency c-section.
Her second resolved itself though she opted for a RCS.
Ok well I am going to try to focus on the non-scary stories and hope for the best. They found it at my first tri screen so they'll check again at my A/S next month. Hopefully it will have resolved so that its not a worry for any longer than a month.
Eta: there are different degrees of it though. In my case the placenta was just bordering on the cervix but not touching it so my OB just called it low lying. I *think* it may actually have to be overlaping the cervix to be called placenta previa. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Idk. I didn't even actually find out at my appt yesterday. I found out when I called to schedule my a/s bc I need a level 2 u/s (BIL has chiari malformation so I get a level 2 regardless) ... They told me I would have needed a level 2 regardless bc of low lying placenta.
It was kind of freaky to hear about it that way and not actually in my doctors office. They haven't received the hospital report yet though, so they don't even know about it as of now.

kdrake8 In my experience if it was something they were really concerned about the tech would have called the OB to come see you durimg the u/s. If they just sent the report in to your doc without calling him/her first that's a good sign!! I know its scary though i was freaked out too.
Every single woman I know with this issue (5) has had the placenta move up during pregnancy so that C-Sections weren't necessary, just be prepared for more ultrasounds.

I had it found at my a/s scan but it resolved it's self by the next u/s I had. My friend had complete previa, was put on bedrest for the last week of her pregnancy and had a c-section at 38.5 weeks jic. Her and the baby are great though, they just came home from the hospital the other day!
