And I worry about the large dogs in our neighborhood. I was approached by barking little Jack Russell Terrier on my run yesterday. I turned around and started slowly walking backwards, hoping it would go away. Out of nowhere comes this little Pomeranian that attached itself to the side of my calf! I let out an involuntary shriek and they both ran off into the bushes.
I knew where the dogs lived, so I went right over the the owners house, but no one was home. Later on when I stopped by, he wasn't the least but apologetic and claimed there was no way the dogs could have gotten out of the yard.
Unfortunately, since it broke the skin my OB had me come in for a tetanus shot. I also had to call Animal Control to get a copy of the vaccination paperwork, otherwise wanted she wanted me to come back for rabies vaccines too
The guy showed Animal Control the paperwork but it was still policy for them to take the dog since it broke the skin. I feel bad bout that.
I would have felt worse if I needed precautionary rabies shots though. And now I have this awesome bruise outlined in teeth marks.
Ooof. That guy was an ass. I wonder if he thought you weren't going to report it. I'm sorry you had to get a shot.
As a small dog owner myself, it absolutely is the little dogs you have to watch out for. People think that because they "won't do a lot of damage" that they have to do any training with them. I worked my ass off with my dogs to make them polite, and people are always shocked how nice my little guys are.

How scary! Some friends and I got chased by acouple dogs on our bike ride this morning, but not as scary as actually getting bitten. Hope you don't have an negative health/side effects from it!

That's awful - glad that you're okay and the dog has it's shots. I was bit by my neighbor's schnauzer a couple years ago on the back of my thigh - no apology there either and they still let those damn dogs terrorize the neighborhood...I started carrying pepper spray. Hopefully this owner learns the lesson.

I just ordered some mace for this very reason (dogs). Not sure it would have helped in this situation since a second dog got you, but I am glad he had his shots and all. Hope your leg is feeling better.

Who know Pomeranians had such a bite? It's still pretty sore, but I think I'll survive.
Yep, if the owner had been a decent human being I wouldn't have had to escalate it. I felt really crummy doing it, but I needed to know the vaccine status and a little reassurance he'd be vigilant about keeping the dogs secure. He's lucky they weren't hit by a car.

Stay safe out there ladies!
I love dogs, but this is the key point for me. If it was a choice between getting rabies shots for myself vs. escalating to the point where he had to have his dog taken away for a day (to prove the dog was vaccinated) it wouldn't even be a question that I would report him. A responsible owner would have been apologetic and showed you the paperwork from the start. So, I hope you don't waste any more time feeling guilty about this and I hope you heal up soon!
OMG! That is SO scary! I am generally not at all afraid of dogs (especially small ones?!?) but since starting to run I have been much more aware of dogs and now I am going to be scared from this story. Glad you are ok!
Glad you are okay, don't feel bad. People should have control of their dogs. I am always worried about this on a run. Two dogs not on leashes approached me yesterday and I was very worried. I just stopped until their owners could come get them. NOT COOL.
So sorry Blondie. Hope you are ok and not having any pain or anything. This is a good reminder for us dog owners to always supervise our dogs & teach them good manners too.
