Mostly because I am tired of him looking like a feral baby from all the crawling around everywhere.. he's always so dirty. I really wish he would just get up on 2 feet already and then I don't have to worry about him cleaning the floor/ground with his clothes
He's been standing on his own, finger walking (one hand), getting to stand in the middle of the floor, for 2 MONTHS now. But he just won't let go of my finger. When I try, he screeches and sits down and starts a tantrum.
He looks really solid when he's walking (holding on) and sometimes he's barely touching my hand. But he just.won't.do.it.
OMG YES!! Cam is up to like, 6-7 steps, but its mainly "come to Mommy!" and then he falls and gets pissed and thats it for the day. He won't really walk to something else, just to people (mainly me). He would prefer to crawl because he's so much faster. But he gets FILTHY and I feel like he could do more/enjoy more 'big kid' things if he was walking. We're going camping for a week at the beginning of June and if he's not walking by then I might cry. Crawling all over in the dirt... aahh....

My nephew was exactly like this with walking. He could clearly walk on his own, but refused to unless he held on to one finger. He did that for a few months, and finally started walking on his own at 15 months. I guess that's not what you want to hear though!
I hope he figures it out soon. I can't wait til Charlotte starts walking, I like that so much more than crawling.
@sprinkles I hear ya about the dirt!!! OMG!!! I bet he'll be good to go by June, though. I can't wait to just whack some shoes on him and that be it. CONSTANTLY washing/wiping his hands, urgh, I am over it.
DS was like this he cruised from 11 months to 16 months. He would not stand on his own but he climbed on EVERYTHING! He walked a week after he turned 16 months and started running 3 days later. He also stood on his own after he started walking.

I have a feeling this is what J will be like. He climbs on everything and cruises like no ones business but has no interest in walking or standing on his own

william was like this for 2 months and then on day he just woke up and was like, oh, I'll do this all on my own now and I don't want to hold your finger. Kids are strange.

It depends on the stage of walking you're talking about. Micah can walk from item to item and even room to room when he wants to. He's terrible outside though, since the ground is so much more unstable. So he "walks" more inside, but strictly crawls outside and gets filthy. And then something gross touches his hands, and in order to investigate it, it instantly goes in his mouth. The amount of dirt he has consumed in the last 24 hours might be alarming.

Yes!!! Lou will only do like a traveling trust fall into me. He won't let go on his own to walk from like a coffee table or anything. He's at five ish steps I guess? He's a solid stander but I try to help along sometimes and stand him up and he does jelly/ spaghetti legs!!!

As my doctor said "does he crawl around in the dirt and put it in his mouth?" "yes" "excellent! It's good for him"

Probably another story you don't want but walking doesn't always prevent the dirtiness! Pey is obsessed with the bark, sand, and dirt at parks. She's constantly crouching down picking up handfuls and then rubbing her hands together. Drives me crazy!

Yes, Cam does the jelly legs too!! So frustrating because he can totally do it, but HATES when you make him or help him. He's always been this way. Its HIS way or the highway.

Mine is this way too. So stubborn!! So hard-headed!! He does jelly legs then throws a fit to prove his point.
@thadsrad that is a great idea! I am going to try this today

Ads went from 6-7 steps last week and in one day this week she just decided she was going to walk everywhere no matter how much she falls! She falls all the time still but she gets back up and walks the rest of the way.
I'm SO certain E could walk of she wanted to. She can stand, walk holding one finger, etc. She just will.not.walk. It's maddening! It makes dresses impossible. I've given up and started stocking up on rompers for the summer.

Ugh, yes. Our boys sound the same!! Cam is SO stubborn. And throws huge tantrums if you try to get him to do something that he doesnt want to do.
And unclejesse, thats how we got first steps too. He had to hold something in his hands, and he'd start to walk freely! I thought it was so weird, but it must give him a little stability

So she can get from sitting to standing without holding anything? Cam can't do that, yet. So when he falls, he crawls over to whatever and pulls himself up, and then will walk along it/to something else if its 1-2 steps away, or if its longer he'll sit down and crawl to it. But, if we're trying to get him to walk to us or if its longer, like 6-7 steps then he'll fall and get all ticked off and crawl away. He'll do it when he's good and ready... its just hard for me to accept that. LOL.
And @starbound, idk if your DS is this way too, but Cam won't walk holding my hand/finger. I think he would really take off walking 100% if he would do that, but he refuses. I try to get him to walk holding my hands and he FREAKS out. He doesn't want ANY help, but yet... he won't do it otherwise. Aahhhh frustrating!!!

Ahh yeah I didn't think of that. She could actually get from sit to standing before she could walk at all. I bet that probably helped he in the walking because she can get back up and try again. It sounds like he will be full on walking soon though!

Actually, he's the opposite. He will only walk with the finger. If I even THINK about letting go he does jelly legs + screeching + tantrum.
In fact, people always say, oh he's walking! because he looks so solid doing it, he's barely holding on. and I say, actually no, he's not walking. And they say, oh, just let go, he'll do it, you'll see.
Um, no. He won't.!!!!
DS1 who is way more cautious and sensitive, got to actual walking so quickly - he went from cruising to standing alone to walking in about a month. DS2 has been crawling since 7 months, cruising since shortly after that, so he's very physical. So this is totally a psychological thing I think, just like Cam.

Sam stands on his own FINALLY and will walk all over the house with his push train, but the second I try to get him to walk to me or if I try to put him down standing he immediately drops to the ground and fusses at me. I thought he would walk sooner than R did since he crawled almost 4 months earlier, but apparently not.
Yes. I am convinced that J COULD walk now if she wanted to, but it's like she just doesn't realize she can. Sometimes she's standing at the table and doesn't realize that she's not really supporting her weight with anything. If she realizes, she sits down. She's gotten really good at cruising around furniture and transferring from one piece of furniture to the other or even walking along touching the wall, but if she needs to go somewhere where she can't be touching something on the way over, she just sits down and crawls.
This is exactly how G is too. She's been standing now for 3 months and added on cruising more than a month ago but still won't stand without holding on, nor try taking any steps without holding onto furniture or a wall.
Mila is here too. She will take 5-6 steps and the fall over or dive at the item/person closest to her. I swear she can walk but she thinks she can't. I hope she gets it soon.

Oh my gosh, yes. J cruises at lightning speed and climbs on everything. And if something is too high to climb he will push a toy over and stand on it to be able to climb on said higher object. He can stand on his own and he's taken a few steps here and there but he's just not into trying because he can get where he is going so much faster by crawling. And this kid is always on the move. Always.
