So this summer we are going up to Lancaster PA for my cousin's wedding. I was telling my "boss" that we were considering flying up because I wasn't sure how Andrew was going to do in the car for that long. She said that when her sister drove to NYC with her son (he was 6 months old at the time), she just laid the back seat down in her SUV and let him crawl around with her while the baby daddy drove. UM, WHAT. This came out after a co-worker jokingly said to just let him play in the backseat the whole way up. She was like "oh yea, she just sprawled his toys out and let him play." We both looked at her like I told her that I could never do that because A) It's illegal B)he'd be climbing all over everything C) I fucking value my child's life.
Is it bad of me that I really really really wish that this girl would get pulled over while doing this? This family thinks that they are invincible.

I think people take the "most accidents happen close to home" thing a little too seriously.
When we were down in Florida, we were talking to people who drove from Kentucky or something. She was pregnant and had a 1 year old and they said she held him in the back of the van and they both slept.
On another note, I definitely missed the thread in which you updated us about your job situation. Can I pester you to tell me what happened? Do they decide to let you stay on?
Yep, I'm staying. It's not ideal, but it's good. The owners acknowledged that I am the one who should be in charge, but their hands are kind of tied. The up side is that we are in a good place financially and we can keep building our savings so when the time is right we can move forward.

Ugh, I just cannot wrap my head around that stupidity, I just can't. I hate that A will scream on long car trips, but if we HAVE to make one, she has to be safe. I just can't imagine being that fucking reckless with something so precious.
A girl I know did the same. She drove from PA to NC, and told me about how she just took her baby out of the car seat and let her crawl or climb around so she'd stop screaming, "because come on, what could happen, I was right there."

I can't believe people think that is ok!
However, you know times have changed in the last 30 years. My "seat" in the car for long car rides was the back of our station wagon. I loved it. Whenever my dad slammed the breaks, I slammed into the seats.

I'm just floored by both of these stories. Can you imagine trying to explain that to a cop?
