The three of you have mentioned Charlaine Harris and/or the Sookie Stackhouse series this week. Is anyone excited about the last book coming out soon? I'm embarrassed to say I am. Alas, it slipped my mind for awhile and I ended up far down on the library hold list. It will be a few months before I get a copy unless I get lucky with one of the copies that can't be reserved.
I don't have it preordered, since the others I've just gotten from the library and I don't like to own incomplete series. But I will definitely read it when I can.
I put a hold on it at the library pretty much as soon as it was listed as "on-order" in the catalog, so I'm hoping that I'll be first in line. If I don't get it soon after the release date, I might have to buy it for my Nook.
I've been thinking for several books now that she'll end up with Sam and the last one really cemented that feeling. I've been Team Sam for most of the series, so I hope I'm right.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm tempted to buy, but then I'd have to buy all of them because, well, I'm compulsive about book series. I've always loved the covers. Maybe I could get them for my mom. She might like them.
I'm surprised most of us are Team Sam. I've also wanted them together throughout the series. I've nothing against the vampires, but I'm not a big fan of immortal/mortal relationships in general - too uneven. I think Sookie ending up with Sam would be bring her personal life full circle. Didn't the books start with her feeling like a failure relationship-wise? That said, the readers on goodreads and one of the linked blogs all think that Harris is being too blatant about Sookie and Sam's developing relationship and that Sam is going to be the murder victim. I guess most of you will find out soon!

I agree with the bolded. I think that, especially in recent books, Sookie has come to embrace her mortality and that a shifter/were is more compatible with what she wants (family, children, laying out in the sun) without being a human with annoying thoughts she has to block out. That leaves Alcide (too entrenched in were politics), Quinn (too entrenched in vampire dealings and lame anyway!) or Sam (best friend and business partner).
Do any of you watch the TV show? If so, how do you feel about that portryal of the Sookieverse?

I completely agree with your take. If Sookie ends up with Sam, the romantic story arc works. Basically, small town girl feels her life has stagnated relative to her peers but doesn't think she will ever have anything more because she's different. She discovers a whole new world, is shown she's lovable, has some adventures and then gets what she wanted in the first place with the person who had been there all along. (This is not to say that everyone wants what she wants or that she will never have another adventure.)
I also watch True Blood, but it became a completely different world for me when they made Sam a murderer (I hope that was ok to say. It's not a major plot point). I wish they used Sookie's telepathy more in TB and wish the story line was more like 50% Sookie rather than making her just one of many characters. Though, I do enjoy Jason and LaFayette a lot as well as all the vampires.

daydreamer, TVSam is a little dark for me, even if it makes him a more interesting character. I LOVE TVJason, and Lafayette and Jessica are fantastic additions. BookPam is one of my favorites, so I find TVPam a bit disappointing; more specifically, I miss the Sookie/Pam friendship from the books (though I'm only through S4). TVEric (Alexander Skarsgard's hotness aside) also suffers a bit, IMO, by TVBill being given more stuff to do.
I haven't really watched the TV series other than the first two or three episodes. There was too much naked for me. I don't usually mind sex in books, but I think that's because my imagination only sketches it in to my comfort level, if that makes sense.
It also seemed like the TV show was a lot darker than the books; even when horrifying stuff happens in the novels, there's some light-heartedness there. Sookie's narrative voice is what really makes the series for me and I think I would miss that.
I am going to get it from the Library...but it has been so long since I read the last one I'm a little fuzzy. I'm team Eric & Suki
I'm a fan of the TV show, but I'm a season behind since I don't have HBO. Meaning, I'm buying season 5 when it comes out in a few weeks & will watch it while the rest of the world moves on to season 6.
