Last year was my first half...the Rock and Roll in DC....i trained for it but the hilly course and the heat did not make for a great first race experience.
The Nike 1/2 today was fantastic though. I beat my last time by 22 mins, felt strong the whole way, only walked through water stops, up the last hill and 4, 30-sec walks breaks when my thighs started to cramp up. The last three miles certainly were tough and that's where I lost most of the time to get to my under 2:30 goal...still though, i never thought i could complete two 1/2 marathons so I am just letting myself experience the accomplishment today. I cracked that 12-min pace at my 10-miler and I'll get there for my 1/2 one day.
i need to give a shout out to my friend and inspiration WinesnotWhines. She kicks all kinds of ass.
Congrats! I thought "are you fucking kidding me?" when I saw that last hill.
yeah as soon as we got toward the waterfront, i knew i had to walk up that hill...it was either walk up the hill or run it and end up walking the rest of the race.
