Hubs ran the Glass City half marathon today in Toledo OH. He PR'd after a pretty crappy training cycle - came in at 1:50:23 (previous PR 1:52:56). It rained the entire race, and I had my bike out there for chasing him down/support. I had to cut one run short b/c I was freezing and had to warm up a bit in the car but I had a great time!
Oh yeah, this is me first thing in the morning, no makeup. Scary stuff (sadlebred should recognize the top).
Quick review - very well organized race, good crowded without overcrowding the course. The last 5 miles are on a paved rail-trail which I thought was really neat because it was completely free of cars/traffic. H said that each mile marker had a clock on it, or someone calling out the times. Pace groups were well organized and very on-time. Plenty of parking, good support and overall a good race. The rain kinda sucked but there's not much to be done about that.
I didn't run it, but Grkaters (shit, K...I'm blanking on your gbcn SN!) and I ran it last year and you're right, its a great race. Definitely a good one for PRs, especially the half (though I didn't PR, but K did and so did a bunch of my running group friends). I wasn't a huge fan of the last stretch on the paved trail only because it was super boring (train tracks on one side and chain link fence on the other) but you're right not having to deal with roads/traffic was nice. Glad to hear your H had a great race!
