Thanks. I having a hard time picturing a 7 year old in a car seat! I also having a hard time with the idea of moving her out of her marathon - it is safe. Boosters seem "open".
You can't use a booster under 40 lbs. You NEED a harness at that weight. You could look into the ones that convert to booster afterwards, like the Britax Frontier. You cna use the harness on super tall kids. I love mine.
We should also ask EmilieMadison, she is a carseat technician.

Kids have to be at least 4 years old AND 40 lbs to use even a high-backed booster.
My older son is still too light to use a booster so we bought a Graco Nautilus when his younger brother needed the Britax convertibles. The Nautilus converts from a 5-pt harness (needed until 40 lbs) to a high-backed booster (can use with the car's regular seatbelt) and then a low-backed booster.

Hey Keys! Papie and VC are right- boosters should be used at a minimum of 4 years and 40 lbs, but most kids are better off staying harnessed until around 6 years. How old is your kiddo? What's your budget? My favorite seat that harnesses and then becomes a booster is the Recaro ProSport (or the newest version called the Performance Sport). There is also a brand new Britax Frontier 90 with a truly amazing innovation in installation (click-tight) and it goes from harness to booster. both of these are awesome and will last you until your LO is ready to sit in just a seatbelt.

She is almost 5 (3 months away). She is in the Marathon now and is getting uncomfortable. Budget? We dont' need no stinkin budget. In all honesty, we haven't even looked at the cost of them so I have no clue what is realistic. Since we have a younger child too (22 months), I look at the option of her being able to use it once Maya grows out of it.
