Screw the DMV. After I got married, I actually went in to change my address. The sent my registration renewal to my old address, and when my head just about blew up, they said just because I changed it THERE didn't mean it went through to registration.
Just call USAA. They have the best customer service on the planet.
This, they are really amazing to deal with. I think I hate dealing with customer service people more than the average person (which often leads to me acting like a lunatic) and when I deal with USAA I am always happy with them.
I've gotten this notice when I've changed insurance companies. It's not big deal, the insurance company deals with it and I make them send me proof of notification from DMV that I am updated.
I'm PISSED at USAA. Hey fuckers, do your job and report back to the DMV. Because now I'm angry. I haven't even called USAA yet. This should be a good time for them.
This is most likely a problem with the DMV. I work in insurance and we get thsese requests all the time, and send the info about 80 times before it is aknowledged by the state, bank, etc.
Although it may very well be USAA's fault, my money is on the DMV.

Because the period of time that is in question is with the old insurance company.
It's complicated by the fact that our vehicles were (still are) registered in NV, but my husband is stationed in CA. When we both were living there, USAA required that we be covered in CA, while maintaining our registration in NV because we're residents here. And the DMV is saying "No, that should not have happened." Yet, they renewed our registration on both of our cars for two years with the CA insurance. So yeah, that's probably on them.
It's a cluster.
Seriously, don´t go back to the DMV until you call and talk to USAA, and speak to a manager if need be. They have always done all the jumping that I would´ve had to do on my own, and saved me the heartache.
OMG is it nightmare DMV Monday or something? I have to go back tomorrow because I waited 3 hours today and still wasn't seen. I FUCKING HATE THAT PLACE!!!!!
I'm just a lurker who posts VERY seldom but this same thing happened to us upon switching coverage and it was SUCH a headache and we ended up having to pay the DMV $50 for NEVER having lapse of coverage. WTH? Good luck!
This happened to our friend when he switched insurance and for whatever reason the DMV fucked it up. They never sent him a letter saying his registration was suspended though so while he, my husband, and my bil and fil were deep sea fishing two hours from home his car got towed. So not only did he have to pay the DMV to fix his registration, he also had to pay to get his car out of impound.
