I'm in Louisville, Kentucky for a week for AP scoring. Since I left early this morning and didn't want to have to rush tomorrow (the first day), I decided to do 7 miles when I got here. At 4:30. In 85 degree sun. I thought about waiting, but the sun sets at 9 and its pretty shady on their river trail already.
Holy shit. So hot. I had to stop a few times to walk, but still managed a 8:15 pace. I love sea level running, I will just make sure it all happens in the mornings the rest of the week.
I'll be in Omaha in about 2 weeks. I'm a little concerned at how training is going to go during those weeks. Omaha is soooooooo much hotter and humid than Seattle ever is. I'll let you know how it goes!
Bitch constantly about how hot it is, then retreat to the treadmill.
If the hotel gym didn't cost money, I'd be in there. Seriously, charging for the gym?!?
wow! I don't think i've ever heard of that. I mean, I havent' stayed in any super duper fancy hotels, but i've stayed at some decent ones and never charged for the gym. That is dumb.

This exactly, except change the treadmill part to, come home...continue to bitch, flail my arms about huffing & puffing dramatically & tell DH that I'm finally moving out west with or without him. Lol
Ditto, Kat. If you can make it through the summer, your increased speed is an awesome surprise when it cools off.
I don't run, I ride, but I'm originally from the north and I still can't handle it. I cross train and switch to the pool. I tried going out last summer at 8am one morning at it was already 88 degrees...I almost died. No thanks. My husband wanted to do a century ride in July...I told him to have fun.
I can only run early in the mornings during the summer. Not going to lie, it is brutal and I go way slower in the heat. I don't know if there's any "getting used to it" but I guess after a while you just suck it up.
I pretty much have to run before 6:30 in the morning or after my kids go to bed at 9pm. Occasionally I'll get crazy and go late afternoon and it's just too hot. The heat doesn't get me as much as the humidity makes it hard to breathe through the heat.
I run, in the garage, with no air, in the south and it's hard as hell. I've also lived in Louisville. They actually had four seasons, which was nice. I prefer the weather there.

And when you do get some speed in the summer, you feel like I total badass. I ran a 9:43 mile 9 of a 10 mile run last night and felt like I'd won Boston or something, LOL
I live in the north, but near Louisville, so I am answering anyway... Run slower if I run after it gets hot.
The real reason why I answered: Please be careful on that trail. Some of it is downtown, but some of it runs through some pretty sketchy neighborhoods. If you are running alone, consider sticking to the downtown portion.
I just got back from an 8 mile tempo run & I was literally wringing out my shorts. It was miserable. The humidity is insane right now. It doesn't help that it's been raining for a week straight. If we don't dry out & get some sunshine soon, I'm going to lose my freakin mind!

I make sure to stay on this side. My long run went into sketch on Friday, but I was right behind/with some other readers. I like it here, but hate how downtown is so unfriendly in that way.
