I don't even REALLY get her point. She sounds jealous, quite honestly.
I WILL agree w/ her on this: "Another colleague moved to the burbs and lamented the lack of social scene. She and her husband live in a 4 bedroom 3000 sq ft home. It's just the 2 of them, yet she was perplexed why she couldn't meet anyone who didn't have any kids complaining that she was "feeling especially isolated, out in these-here burbs". That will happen when you moved into a subdivision sans kids. "
Suburbia isn't really the place for a "no kids social scene" and if someone is actually complaining about that, then they are kind of idiots.
She sounds like a huge dick. It's not my fault she has kids and her vacation costs her more, and it's not her decision where I live. Live and let live.
I didn't even read the whole thing, but going on the quotes she sounds terrible. I love my kids dearly, but I can understand the appeal of not having kids. I do. and I if I didn't have kids, I definitely would not be living in the house I have now. lol
I can't figure out how this got published. There's no connecting thread other than a whiny vent about childless couples. Pick one argument and expand if you're going that route :-P
Such a dick! We are "DINKS" living in the suburbs (mostly because the city is outrageously expensive) so that means we are taking up all the school space?? LOL get outta here with that.

As a DINK, I would find this offensive, but the writing is so terrible I can't do anything but laugh!
We live in the suburbs. Not because I want to "hurt the schools" but because living in the city is to dam expensive! Just because we have 2 incomes and no kids does not mean we are rolling in dough.
As far as having kids in public places, I do think screaming kids who are throwing things while their parents ignore them should be thrown out. Well behaved children I have no issue with. And by well behaved, I do not mean sitting like a statue. I mean being reasonably respectful of the fact that other people are there to enjoy themselves as well and I don't want your kids FF or mashed potatoes in my hair, nor should my ears be ringing from the decidable of your child's temper tantrum.
I DO think that nicer, higher scale restaurants are not the place for kids. If everyone else there paid for a baby sitter so they could go and get away, then you should to. If I wanted to go somewhere with screaming kids, I would save my cash and go to Friendly's or Outback, not a high scale restaurant with $50 plates and bottles of wine.

This article is weird.
I am a DINK living and working in suburbia. I live 2 miles from my office (5 miles from H's). But because we don't have kids we should drive from a city to get to work? And our dogs shouldn't have a yard to play in? No thanks.

"If you don't want to have kids, get out of neighborhoods with schools."
This is hilarious. Granted, I live in a city, but for me to not live in a neighborhood with some sort of school in it, I would have to move underground.
"If you don't want to have kids, get out of neighborhoods with schools. Move downtown, or to a chic restaurant district where you need half the space and your "no curfew" lifestyle won't be cramped by strollers on the streets."
I don't know why she's demanding my parents move out of the house they bought (paid-off) just because they don't send kids into the school district. Their house, in suburbia, completely meets their needs. In that house, us kids used public education for exactly 3 years. So, what? They are not allowed to live there?
I'll be in m current house for 10 years before we use the public school. What, I shouldn't have moved here unless I send kids to school?
And isn't her MATH off? Isn't the whole point of public education that everyone pays their school tax, so parents don't have the full burden of paying what it costs to educate their own kids??
apparently this writer is unfamiliar with compulsory public education throughout the united states. there is no place one can live that does not have schools. because that would be illegal.
so, in addition to being an asshole, the writer is also a moron.
