regularly, what do you use to hold the curl? I got a Hot Tools gold barrel based on great reviews, but my curls fall so quickly! Is my hair just too long, or is there a product I should know about?
I use bumble & bumble curl conscious defining cream on damp hair, then hair spray once dried and curled. Like nic, I also hold each curl for 10 seconds. I've tried spraying each layer of curls, but like emily, it actually seems to work better when I only spray the top layer. Granted, I actually prefer when my curls fall/loosen a bit, but once settled the style lasts all day.
I have a friend who swears by hairspraying her hair while it's on the curling iron, but she admitted to destroying multiple curling irons that way.
I've seen people recommend these too. Are they hard to roll and/or keep in if your hair has layers? How many do you use? There's several options on Amazon.
I use a hot tools curling iron, and spray the curls with Elnett hair spray before I finger comb through them.
ETA this is totally not useful, because my hair tends to hold curl pretty well. It does help, however, to have a style that takes weight off of the ends of your hair.
if I want loose waves, then I use a 1" or 1 1/4" size barrel. use a smaller barrel than you think you need since the curls do loosen up. I spray after with Loreal Elnett spray, never before. I also set my curls after... any blog I've read that is written by a hair pro said that a good set is the key to long lasting curls.
similar to this, and I use these types of clips...
or this (this is closer to how I do it, with the curls sticking off my head)...
it doesn't have to be a tight, neat set. I just wrap the warm curl around 2 of my fingers and clip to my head. then I go about the rest of my routine--makeup, coffee, etc. about 15-20 minutes later, I take it down. I feel like I need to take a picture the next time I do this, since I've had to describe it a few times.
here is a pic of my hair done with a 1 1/4" barrel iron and a set. this is probably 30 minutes after I took the curls down.
