Around here, people get shushed by slamming doors. There's a very loud secretary down the hall, and occationally people will get up and close their doors very loudly when she gets too unruly.
this is my preferred method of dealing with SWHM (perhaps a FIRM closure is a better way to describe it). it usually also means that once i reopen i get another 45-60 minutes of reduced volume out of her.
the person who shushed her is another secretary. no door to slam.
We have white noise. They did have problems with it but said it was fixed. I kept thinking it wasn't fixed and I'd complain to maintenance cause I could hear the woman in the office 25' away just like she was standing next to me (so could people I had on the phone). They've tested it and tested it and say it's fine. They referred it to the person in charge of offices & equipment. She asked who I was hearing and after I told her she said - oh they get complaints from everyone about her and have for years, she's just loud.
The thing is, the loud woman is the nicest person. One of the odd things is that when she whisper's - it's actually louder than if she spoke normally. It's like a very, very loud stage whisper.
She has been quiet the last few weeks (I'm off right now) so I'm thinking someone said something to her. I'm not the only that it drives crazy, everyone in our part of the building is bugged.
