I admit it. I lift heavy and when I get toward my maxes, I grunt, yell, cuss, and sometimes cheer. LOL I honestly, don't give a crap what the people at my box think, half of them do it too. Maybe the type of gym makes a diff.
WDYT about people who are making loud "noises" when lifting heavy?
I really think that the gym is for working hard and if that release of energy or air helps you get that much more work up, by all means, work hard.
I grunt too, but I try to be quiet about it. If I miss I lift, I'm guilty of swearing. And when I hit a big PR, I've been known to dance around a bit and fist pump
I don't mind the grunting, but I have been known to sing out loud with my IPod when I'm running outside. I have no room to talk
I used to do that too, but I listen to mostly rap and one day I realized a chubby 40 yr old mom running down the road belting out "What's my motherfucking name!" is probably not the image I should be projecting.
CrossFit has brought it out of me. The music is usually loud and everyone's making all sorts of weird noises so it's NBD. I would probably rein it in if I was in a quieter gym.

I sing AND do little hand movements. It's the number 1 reason why I don't have a problem with people talking on the treadmills: phone or otherwise.
I also have "loud" foot strikes on the treadmill..but I figure I'm running fast so whatever. If it's annoying--it's the gym. I'm here to DO work. If it annoys someone--I'm working...you must not be working hard enough if you can focus on me.

I do little hand movements and make faces as though I'm singing along because I'm *imagining* that I'm singing along. I often wonder if there is some security guard sitting in a dark room watching a camera feed of me on the elliptical laughing his ass off. I probably look mental.
I grunt on occasion so it usually doesn't bother me.
HOWEVER, there is one guy who sometimes pops up in my classes (like this week!) who is an overactive grunter - like when we're stretching - he is SO annoying. I think he does it for attention for something, but dude, the first time you get on the ground doesn't merit a giant grunt from you.
