We got a notice from our condo complex and if we want to renew our lease in August or rates will be jumping $500/month!!! I didn't love this place but we hasn't decided what we were going to do, but this really seals the deal. I am so annoyed I hate moving!!
Wow that is nuts!!! I'd be moving too. What towns are you going to look at?
I think we have the same management company, right? They only raised ours by $75/month this year.
Yea it's the same management company. It's completely insane, I don't know what they are thinking. We are going to ask them about it, but honestly I am so annoyed I think I am done. I would like to stay in the Lexington/Bedford/Concord are but if I leave my job it would depend where I work. Since my H works in NH he is routing for north shore, Newburyport area. But with my current office in Watertown that wouldn't work.
That is crazy. The rental market is complete nuts. Apartments flying off the market and the rush to seal the deal before anyone else snatches it up. I'd love to live in the North shore and take the commuter rail in... I'm job hunting and commute is a more important factor then I wish it was but I just cant put myself in a situation of an insane commute up here!
I wish! They listed out what the rent amount would be. They also noted that if we don't give them 1 month warning the month to month rent is $1200/month more than our current rate.
We have been stretched further than we are comfortable with since my income is not what my company said it would be so its a good chance to downsize a little. But still annoying, lol.
Woah, that is a HUGE jump!! I know rental prices have exploded, but damn.
You taking notes for the downstairs unit? I lost another somerville friend. They sold this past weekend. Had 1 open house saturday and 2 bids over asking by Tuesday. Plus they agreed to waive anything on the inspection under $25k!!! Market is insane.
That's ridiculous. Did they give you a good introductory rent to get you in there? That's what my old complex used to do. When we moved in we were paying at least $500/month less than our neighbors across the hall, who had been there for like 15 years. And our apartment had an updated kitchen, while theirs didn't.
Also, don't let your H talk you into moving to Newburyport. It's a great town but so inconvenient, even if you were only going to Boston, not Watertown.
As someone currently under contract, yes, prices are getting weird and the speed with which everything was moving was crazy fast...
I am hoping that this aspect of things helps us on the selling our house in CT side. To unload that this summer would free up a lot of $ and would be such a nice relief!
My neighbors and I were just talking about how crazy the market is right now. Lots of stuff going for over asking and going fast. It feels like someone suddenly flipped a switch.
My friends just sold their 2 br condo in Waltham, on a side street off Moody Street, after being on the market for TWO days. It went on the market on Friday, had an open house on Sunday, had two offers and a bidding war directly after the open house!
Also, preppy, want to rent my condo in Salem?! That's the north shore! Very convenient to Boston on the train...

That is nuts! Maybe the new owners really like Moody Street pizza and wanted to be close.
