I had an appointment with my orthopedist today about my posterior tibial tendonitis. I was diagnosed in december and put in a cast the same day, then it came off a in January but I hated my doctor and his "come back and see me when it hurts again" method of long term management. So I found another doctor that I saw in February, and then had a follow up six weeks later with him in which I was cleared to start running and then today was 8 weeks after that appointment.
And now, no more appointments unless I stop making progress in my running or it starts hurting again! Hip, hip, hooray!
The frustrating part is that we still don't know exactly what caused this and there is some concern that I just have a foot pathology (not sure if that's the right word) that is going to lend itself to this being a reoccurring issue. My doctor was pretty positive and encouraging that if I just keep going slow and being smart, it might take a while, but I'll be back to normal one day. He's actually encouraging of me pushing my distance over the long term (hello marathon!) to see if it flares up or not but to take it really, really slow (hello marathon in like 2016.)
He said I could try basically anything I wanted to see if it made things better faster (massage, foot foam rolling, glucosamine, or OTC orthotics like superfeet) but wasn't positive anything would really make a difference. At least trying some stuff will make me feel like I'm doing something.
Anyway, I'm excited. My foot looks different than it did before (although I have to be honest and say now I microscope my feet just about whereas before, I probably just glanced at them once a week) and I thought he was going to tell me ZOMG NEVER RUN AGAIN! I was pretty pleased when he said everything looked normal and just to not be an idiot and I should be fine
