I get mine at The Body Shop when they do their 50% off sales. I got a full on kit with a cute carrying clutch for $18 over Christmas, but it was a gift set. Thanks for reminding me I need to wash it all since it's covered in BM that I'm allergic to. I just switched to some extra ones I had laying around from there. I think the quality is pretty good, expecially for what I paid. If you sign up for their free club, you get 10% off all purchases with the card.

I decided that after 5-6 years, my MAIN foundation brush needed replacing. I was not liking the selection, OR the prices, at any drug/cosmetic stores. So I went to Hobby Lobby. I ended up buying SIX new brushes for about $8. And I *LOVE* my new foundation brush SO MUCH MORE than my old one! My gosh, like night and day. I can't believe I even used that old one. I just want to put it out there. Artists brushes are excellent quality, and come in a truly mind-boggling array of shapes, sizes, and textures; often much cheaper than "makeup" brushes.
I have a collection of both MAC and Sigma brushes. I live them both but find the Sigma are just as great as the MAC but less than half the price. They're holding up very well after years of daily use.

The only problem I'd have is confusing the ones I actually paint with the ones for makeup since I clean my brushes in the bathroom. I found a couple in the toothbrush holder in the guest bath last time DH cleaned since he didn't have a clue what they were for. I left them out to dry over night when I painted until about 2AM while he was working. Also, if you take this route, sign up for Hobby Lobby emails. It's gets you a 40% coupon immediately and more in the future. Michael's always has 50% coupons and similar stock in brushes. That would be another good place.

Yay! I thought I was alone! Makeup stores can be so overpriced for brushes. My only criteria for art brushes is that they be short handled so I can fit them in my makeup bag (which is about 7.5" long). So none of those super long brush handles for me.

I'm always at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or Joann's since I paint, sew, collage, and frame a ton of stuff. I just made and cut a pattern for a dress this morning that I plan to sew while DH works tonight. There's a lot of options in those stores.
I have an absurd amount of brushes. I'd say about 40+? Predominantly consisting of MAC and Sephora. I have some that my sister got me from Ricky's too.
I have gotten all of them within the last year and a half.

I got these two "value kits":
The big brush in the top kit is my new foundation brush. I had been using a much smaller flat "wash" brush, like the smaller brushes on the bottom. The huge brushes for powders and blushes are much more expensive but still a great deal, as the quality is superb.

I mainly don't even use makeup brushes. I usually use my fingers for eye makeup. I just feel like I have more control! I go through stages where I do use my brushes though, and they are a Mac travel kit.
I bought mine singularly from Mac and sephora. The kits don't work for me because they come with brushes that I don't end up using. It was a little more expensive or buy them singularly, but at least I use them all.

I buy them individually from Target (ELF and Sonia Kashuk), Walmart (Soho), and Ulta (EcoTools and some random ones). I also have some Coastal Scents brushes. I really want to place a Sigma order soon and I've thought about getting some artist brushes at Hob Lob too.

I have mostly MAC, a few Sigma, a few Bare Minerals and a few Ulta and Sephora professionals. I really like my Sigma foundation brushes, the F84. My only complaint with Sigma is that you can only order online and their shipping is ridiculous. It drives me bonkers because I like to feel the brush and see size before I buy it. That's mostly why I have MAC and Ulta professional ones that have Sigma alternatives...I don't want to order online!
