This is one of those things where my desire to do something "fun" is probably not a great idea, so I need some input and suggestions if you guys are available...
DS's birthday is coming up (UGH! 4 days!). On his birthday, I usually bring cupcakes to his daycare for him to share with the kids. But we're going to be doing cake at home later that evening, and that's A LOT more cake and frosting than I like him to have in a single day... So I was trying to come up with alternate treats for "school" that would still be special and fun. My first thought was fudgesicles, since it was supposed to be a warm day. But then the practical mom in me keeps thinking about 20 toddlers and young kids covered in melting chocolate in the sunshine and the mess that will no doubt ensue.
Any thoughts? Whatever I do has to be store bought and delivered to the school in a sealed packaging, and with all the festivities we have planned for this weekend I'm not sure I'll have a lot of time to do something super special, but I want him to feel like it's special. Ya know?
What about something like a juice box and a small bag of teddy grahams. You could even tie a cute bow around each one so that it is sort of like a tiny present for each kid. I also sometimes get small packages of pre sliced apples that come with a tiny caramel dipping cup. Is caramel worse than fudge?

I like that idea, but it's very similar to something that they would normally have for snacktime already... Maybe I can put together little treat bags for each kid? some teddy grahams (I LOVE this idea), a piece of candy or two and a little toy? As long as the food is still individually packaged, I can do that. I just can't take it out of the original packaging and put it in new individual baggies.
ETA: the issue with the fudge popsicles is more that it's supposed to be 80 degrees outside and I'm thinking in terms of the messy factor. If it was just DS, I'd say have at it. But I have to think about the other kids parents too, and they probably wouldn't be too thrilled about their kid coming home with chocolate stains all over their clothes. KWIM?

Mel has some great ideas. To go along with what she said, they have apple trays at WalMart with caramel. They were a big hit at kid's birthday party.
Other suggestions would be chocolate milk chugs and bags of pretzels or veggie chips.
Though, I just had this thought because you said it was going to be a hot day: get a giant tub of ice cream, bowls, spoons and toppings (sprinkles, whipped cream, gummy bears, swedish fish and fish crackers - I guess you should stay away from nuts, because of allergies). Give them one scoop of ice cream each and let them add the toppings they want.
Of course, that could be messy as well, but not as messy as ice cream on a stick.
I know this might be messy too, they used to sell those small tubs of ice cream with the little wooden spoons. They are all prepackaged. I got one on a flight recently and it took me back to being a kid.
