So last fall I had some hip issues that the my ortho diagnosed as bursitis, but said if it returns we should probably do an MRI and look for a stress fracture. At that time he gave me a Cortizone shot and told me to work back into running.
Fast forward to yesterday and a short training run for a 10K this weekend. Up until mile 2.5 yesterday I've had no aches, no pains, nothing. In fact last weekend I ran 9 miles and I felt fine afterwards! Now the pain is back and very similiar to what I was having previously.
I'm signed up for a 10K on Saturday and its the longest race I've done so far and have really been looking forward to it. My hip pain today is better, but not eliminated. My plan is to give it rest and see how I feel Saturday morning. But knowing my stubborn self, I'll probably run it anyway and (maybe) have to give up about half way through.
The course is fairly hilly, but there is a 5K option to do too (but that is really hilly)
What do you guys think I should do? I'm sure you guys can sympathize with my major disappointment that I'm feeling right now.
I have bursitis and arthritis in one hip, but I manage it with ibuprofen and yoga.
If I were you I'd take a couple ibuprofen and run, and stretch your flexors like crazy after! Bursitis is a condition that will never go away, and if you stop every time you get a flare up you'll miss a lot! I stop running only if my gait is completely screwy or I'm in major pain.
