and will be running a full marathon while there!!!!!!
I just found out 2 weeks ago that my aunt and I made the cut for the March 2014 trip (we had been confirmed for 2015 but have been on the 2014 waitlist for 2 years). My aunt's goal is to run a marathon on every continent. We are going with marathon tours ( www.marathontours.com/index.cfm/page/Antarctica-Marathon-and-Half-Marathon/pid/10734)
So the race is in March 2014....my Aunt and I plan to combo walk/run the marathon (time limit is 7 hours I think). Also, its a 2 loop course, and they said if something happens, you can just do 1 loop (half marathon) and not be DQed. So that is my backup plan.
So for training, should I "run" the Houston Marathon in Jan 19, 2014 and then just keep up my mileage for March 2014 marathon? Do an earlier marathon? Etc?
OMG that is so exciting! I went to Antarctica in November, and was it wasn't as cold as I expected, but the wind was pretty insane. It was seriously amazing though, and running a marathon will be the memory of a lifetime. Make sure to take motion sickness meds (preferably get some scopolamine patches prescribed)... the Drake passage was seriously intense.
Dude, you might want to buy a walk in freezer and toss a treadmill in there!
But that will be one hell of an experience!
I read the book about a writer who did the marathon and he said a guy on his trip did that (well he put a treadmill in a huge freezer area for a meat packing company)!
