As for racing/training, I would race Houston if that's something you are planning on doing anyway. You'll have enough time to recover between Jan and March and won't have to do much but throw a couple of long runs in between. It seems obvious both by the nature of the event and your description of your game plan that you aren't gunning for a PR in Antarctica...your Jan marathon training should be sufficient to get you across the finish line.

Nice!! I don't know enough about marathon training to give advice, but be ready for anything in Antarctica! There have been years where the marathon has been run on the ship (lots of laps!).

I read about that in the book....i think i would die if we had to do it on the ship.....seriously....the boat is NOT that big!
That is going to be awesome! A guy in my running group did that marathon! He has run marathons on every continent and wrote a book about it. I remember the Antarctica marathon chapter was really fascinating.
