I just finished taking my dog out for her last walk of the night. I saw my neighbor from a few houses down that I often see at the dog park this time of night. We are casual acquaintances and she has always been nothing but nice to me.
We were chatting and she asked why I wasn't out on a Friday night and I explained I was studying for finals. She said oh yea, I can tell it's really been a rough semester for you:
Me:
Her: "Well it looks like you've been stress eating a lot. I had the same problem in college and while it's a little weight now, it can turn into a lot very quickly - just be careful."
Me: Stunned silence.
I'm not good with the quick come backs and I honestly felt like crying so I quickly mumbled that I needed to go home and got the hell out of there. I'm sure she was really trying to be helpful but juheeze, lady.
I mean it would be one thing if I had truly, honestly, gained a ton of weight. I admit I've probably put on five pounds but SHE DOESN'T SEE ME NAKED she couldn't possibly know that.

holy shiznit.
maybe she thought you were someone else? I once had a woman around the block asking me questions because she thought I was her neighbor. I wasn't. It was seriously 5+ minutes in she figured it out.
My now deceased neighbor was even more direct and to the point with me. Like giving me fatherly advice. I chalked it up to being old and particular. Better than the neighbor who asked me if there was something I wanted to tell her re: being pregnant :/
I'm so confused about people who comment on other people's weight. Don't they feel the static reaction when they say something? Why do they think anyone wants their opinion? What were/are their parents like on the subject? I could keep going. It is so baffling.
