Talk me off the ledge! My sister is coming to visit and bought us tix to go see Dave. I'm kind of dreading it! ;Not only will I be 8 months pregnant and SOBER, I don't really like Dave. We're streaming a Dave show now, and the best part of it is that Trey Anastasio is a guest. He's blowing Dave away!
I haven't been to a DMB concert since mid-90's, but I imagine they are the same. Tons of weed, each song lasts for 20+ mins, a great time if you are impaired in some way. No way I would go pregnant, especially not 8 mos. Can your sister bring a friend instead?
I really love Dave, so I would be in heaven. I'm so jealous!
Others are correct though, the songs last a long time, and there will be lots of pot smoking hippies there. People definitely sing along too... It's my favorite part
I love Dave and have been while hugely pregnant but if you're not a fan, you won't enjoy yourself. Can your sister take a friend instead and the two of you do something another night?

I'm a huge fan and have been to about 20 shows. I have never smoked pot. My last show was when I was 36 weeks pregnant.
It was an indoor arena with good ventilation so I was only aware of one brief time of smoke.
People do sing along, dance, etc but it has never bothered me. I've been to about 20 shows.
I'm jealous you get to go! They are skipping KC for the third year in a row and when tickets went on sale, we were still in our infertility treatments and not planning any travels.
Isn't singing and dancing at concerts kind of par for the course? I mean, I went to DMB shows back in the mid-90s, and I agree it's a particular thing. But the singing and dancing never struck me as especially strange.
Why did your sister buy you concert tickets for a band you don't like?
Well, I can generally enjoy myself at any concert. DMB is her favorite - she travels all over the country to see them multiple times every tour. They haven't been here in a while. When they announced the dates, I said of course I would go. But then I got pregnant. And remembered that sing-alongs are annoying.
The only concert I have ever been to where people didn't sing along was a Cosby, Stills, and Nash concert. Every one just sat there in their chair, tapping their toes, or lightly drumming on one leg with a hand. Do you not sing along to the radio? Concerts are about having fun and feeling the music (lol at my inner hippie). I've only ever seen DMB in St. Louis, but here it isn't really a hippie thing. It's mostly a young, preppie group. I have smelled pot but I've never smoked it nor have I been offered any.
With that being said, we have pit tickets for this summer, so I'm sure it will be a bit rowdier than the regular seats.
Please don't ever go to a Phish concert.
I've been to 50 Phish shows. It's different. DMB shows seem to be the whole audience singing along at the top of their voice. If Phish fans sing, I never hear them. The worst experience I had at a Phish show was when a group of drunk DMB fans behind us belted out all the lyrics like they were part of the show. It caused thoughts of violent rage - completely unacceptable at a Phish show! We had to move.
LOL? really? I'm pretty sure DH & his buddies sing at Phish shows-not that they represent any majority of Phish fans. IDK what to tell you then. Sorry!
If they're singing loudly to all the songs DMB style, then they are definitely in the minority and definitely irritating the fuck out of the people around them. People are there to hear the band play, not to hear how well your DH and his buddies know the lyrics.
I went with DH when I was 6-7 months pregnant. It was awful, we had lawn seats and sitting on the ground sucked with my big belly. Plus lots of pot smoke, I spent a lot of time by the food areas to avoid it.

yeah what's up with skipping KC again?? So bummed. I've been to 20ish as well...love it. Used to travel all over prior to having kids.
