Living room: would this look okay

Whats wrong with the current rug? I think your choices are okay, but safe.

the lighter curtains go with the striped pillow, darker with the rug. i dont think either really matter since its a blue and brown color scheme.

eta: I'd get a lamp with a gold/yellow in it to pull from the floral pillow

Current rug is all snagged from our dog and its not very soft so since we are moving Id like to get a new one

I do not like that rug at all. I think either curtains or lamp or fine, but I agree very safe. I'd try to add in a metallic with the lamp.

The lamp seems very traditional and the rug's NMS but fine.

You wouldn't want to mix things up a little since you're moving? Retire the blue for a while? The citron color in the floral pillow's fun and different. Or how about color of the year emerald? (that was this year, right? lol)

DH wants to keep these colors and he really likes the rugs I think it's really nice in person more colorful and not so dark

What about a lamp like this with more of a cream base?

I'm loving the mercury lamps with burlap but our handles and our curtain rods are oil rubbed bronze. I'm not sure it would look right. I think I need something lighter though. I can't spend a lot DH doesn't love the idea that I want new lamps but we don't have a pair of anything.

I would not hesitate to mix mercury glass and oil rubbed bronze. I have that combo in my bedroom.

This. I don't think it has to be one or the other...mixing finishes, whether it is metals or wood, just adds more interest and texture to a room.
