I'm 3 weeks out from a marathon. I was tired this morning after a week of traveling for work, and seriously considered skipping my 12 miler this morning, but I sucked it up. Run went fine, but within an hour of finishing my lower hamstring was a world of hurt. Walking down stairs really hurts. I've been rolling and I have it wrapped, but I think I just need to take a week off because I've been doing too much. I'm freaking out about that, though. My goal is just to finish this one, I'm fully expecting it to take 6+ hours (Leadville), so it shouldn't be that crucial to keep running, since a lot of it will be a fast walk/hike/climb, anyway. I did 20 last week and a full marathon 5 weeks ago. I'm not losing much by sitting a week, right? Right?!?!
Sorry for the brain dump, I think my husband might leave me if I don't stop talking obsessively about my hamstring and asking him what he thinks
Yes, taking a week. off will not ruin all your past training. You need your hamstring to heal or you won't be able to run the race, period. Ice, ibuprofen, rest and reevaluate at the end of next week. Deep breaths!
