I have no issues with spider outdoors, but I do not want them in my house.
If the house was vacent, they probably set up shop and will move on now that it is occupied. Make sure your seals are okay around all your doors and windows, keep clutter to a minimum, vaccum and dust often, and knock down any webs you come across. I hear peppermint oil will help to keep them away as well.
I agree with emjacobs that spiders are useful. When I find them, I try to be humane and just shush them out the door if they are near one. Otherwise I let them be. However, I will confess that when a spider the size of the palm of my hand appeared in my pantry, I used the vacuum.
Check your seals and give it a few months, they are probably just now getting active since the weather is getting nicer, they will probably move on to somewhere more their style (less populated by hoo-mans, dark, and boring) aka your utility room, basement, and coat closet.
