I start my practicum today and I am super nervous. The unit I was put on, is currently shut down to new patients because of an outbreak of C-Diff. I have a compromised immune system because of my medication which is kind of worrisome in this situation, but the one thing I have going for me is that I am already on antibiotics! I am hoping/thinking that we will have to be wearing gowns, masks and gloves but I guess I will see.
I have to work 2-10:15p today and so far that is all I know. The girl that is my preceptor was going to email me her new schedule and never did, just our starting shift. So I will find out the rest of what I will be working today (I am supposed to work 15 - 8 hour shifts over the next 3 weeks and her original schedule had me working 10).
Yikes OPS! I didn't know that - I will definitely be careful! I guess there have been quite a few people that have died from it on the unit and the outbreak began a few weeks ago and it is still shut down, so it is definitely something you don't mess with!
Thanks guys. I hope it goes well because they said that it is like a 3 week job interview - if you do well you will be offered a casual position to start. Fingers crossed!
