I'm super excited. However, I'm afraid that either the casting (Maguire and DiCaprio wouldn't have been my 1st choice) or Fitzgerald's message will get lost in this film version. I'm really hoping I'm wrong.
Must admit I definitely had my hesitations @kirkette (still do a bit- it's one of my vry Favorite books!!), but trying to go into the movie w/ an open mind. As long as Fitz's (we're tight like that ) main themes are present, I'll be pleased!

I also have huge reservations, Gatsby is my favorite book evah. I'm a HS teacher and love explaining the symbolism to the kids. They get SO into it when they see how excited I get about it still.

Plus, the Redford version is just so good!
LOL, we're twins! It's my favorite too. I do a Gatsby unit each spring with my 11th graders. I love seeing their faces with they make the major connections.
miniroller, from the previews I've seen the film has done an excellent job with:
Dr. TJ Eckleburg
conveying the intensity of the green light
pary scenes
the car scene
and all of Gatsby's shirts.
I also love the casting of Daisy and the Wilsons.
I'm from a town that is on the water and faces Long Island. Fitzgerald rented a summer house there and wrote it while looking at the LI Sound!

Totally intensifies my dork obsession!
Awesome!
Man, Daisy, I wished you lived near by so we could go see the film together. Lately, I've been talking nonstop about this book to anyone who will listen. It's as if preaching about it to my students is not enough.
I just finished re reading the book and now I'm even more excited!
I did that in November....when the release date was supposed to be in December. Such a great book. I think they nailed the optometrist sign (as far as I can see from trailers). So exciting!
I haaaate Tobey Maguire. I wish they had cast anyone but him.
I was just going to post this, with the same number of a's. I may have used all caps. He is the worst actor of all time. He is worse than Keanu. I avoid all his movies. I read an interview that TMs mom convinced him to be an actor, he originally didn't want to do it. Why, Mrs. McGuire? WHY?!?!

I think Toby is perfect for Nick. Just like I thought he was perfect for Homer Wells. He mostly the narrator, until you find your own sentiments through his. Non-descript and quiet, and yeah...kinda blase and doe eyed....I think it works well. I'm so psyched for this.
Now I will say I think Toby was wrong for Peter Parker. I thought Peter would have had more personality. Anyway, my Tobey Maguire expertise just reached its limit. lol.
