Remember how River cat had 12 inches of his intestine removed? It was $2,800. His insurance is denying our claim because he had IBD before we had insurance. His intestine was still all the way alive when he was diagnosed though. Then his intestine died and he had to have it removed. Fuck, seriously. We do not have an extra $2,800 just sitting around. I am just sitting here sobbing. This is so financially stressful.
Can you appeal the denial? Sometimes, the initial denial is just a formality and you need to get more documentation clarifying the differences between the pre-existing condition and the relevant condition. I'm so sorry you're going through that - $2800 is nothing to sneeze at. *hugs*
I'm sorry. This happened to me when I bought pet insurance and my pup had IBD. It sucked big time. I think I'm still paying off some of her debt. What about care credit? Can you do a payment plan with your vet?
Unfortunately the vet we go to make you pay the full amount before you leave so it is already on our American Express card. We can pay it off slowly if they reject our appeal. This is the first time we have ever had to carry a balance on the card though. Waahhh...
I am feeling a lot less stressed about it today though. We have been meaning to cut down some specific areas of our budget and this might just be the kick in the pants we needed.
