It's too bad that I was eating lunch when I just read a comment on YHL about how they save money by giving each other haircuts. +o( Come on. There is cheap and then there is just ridiculously cheap. Anyone with me???!!! WDYT?
I get it for kids and maybe for men although I would never dare... but yeah, I wouldn't let me H near my head with scissors, either. I just think that sometimes being that frugal is disabling, that's all.

I don't see the big deal, and actually cut DH's hair. We aren't particularly frugal but we just don't see the reason to pay to have his hair cut if he's happy with the way I cut it at home. Plus it's more convenient.
No way would I let DH near my hair, but only because he would completely hack it. If he could do a decent job I'd consider letting him trim it if needed. I guess I don't get what is disabling about having your spouse cut your hair?
I don't see this as ridiculously cheap. I grew up with my dad cutting all the kids' hair until we were old enough to want more than a simple bob. My sisters also cut his hair. He began going to a barber, because I couldn't cut straight. Ridiculously cheap would have been if he kept letting me cut it despite it looking bad. DH cuts his own hair from time to time. He also does the kids' hair. He honestly does a better job than anytime I have had their hair cut professionally. He takes more time getting the kids to sit still, reassure them, and making sure everything is straight, so the end result is better.
I don't see the need for barf face here. I've cut FI's hair for years. He gets a buzz all the same length, why should he go in and pay someone to do that when I grew up trimming cows and horses? He's much easier to work with, a little pickier, but he at least stands still.
Yeah, don't really see why this is so disturbing to you. My mom has cut my brother and dad's hair for years and years. There's no point in paying someone else to do it if you can do the same thing at home for free. Now my hair? Nobody but my hairdresser touches that.
Also if I need to trim dead ends or something I will totally do my own, I won't try anew style on myself but my stylist is expensive (she's damn good, but damn expensive) so I would rather trim my own dead ends then pay the money for her to do it.
Also if I mess up she's only a phone call away, there is nothing she can't fix.

I definitely cut DH's hair (we just use clippers) - it's easy, saves a few bucks, etc. I have short hair that needs an actual stylist, but I trade massages for hair cuts, so my hair is free, too.
I don't trust myself with a clippers or scissors on a human but Hs mom cuts his hair, his brothers' and Kranikan II's. She either does it in the garage over newspaper or outside on the lawn (we live in the sticks).
She's free. It's handy. There's really only like 2 ways to cut guy hair anyways, so what's the big deal? It seems like godawful cheapness at its best, but really it's just a matter of H likes her work, he hates going out for a haircut. We're uncheap in a 100 other ways, trust me.
That'll be the day H gets anywhere near me with a scissors, but my dad trimmed my bangs all the way through college.
Now gross is when Kranikan I and his friend took my cow clippers (and my icky old ones at that) into the bathroom and gave each other haircuts!
I cut my husband's and son's hair. The first time I did it on H, I used my horse clippers. Complete with horse hair. Now, they have their own set, and we're especially puke-worthy because I do it in the backyard so we don't have much to clean up.

I remember this!!! TJ asked me to use my good clippers on him (this was before we bought him a set) and I looked at him like he had just suggested that I shred paper with my clippers. Are you f*ing kidding me? These are my show clippers for my horses WHITE face and legs, I don't even use them on his light brown areas, what makes you think that I'm going to infect them with your BLACK hair. No. Nope. Not happening. Plus the blades cost way to friggin much.
I did offer to use my body clippers on him and he agreed, until he saw the tool box they came in
And I love you too I like how you totally get the farm life stories that most people give me the side eye over.
Everyone seems to concede that it is ok to trim men's hair and kid's hair at home, which I agree with. What caused me to insert this +o( is that it does make me a bit queasy to think that they are so cheap that she lets him cut her hair as well. I guess I would really have to think that we had no money at all in order to be in that situation. I am surprised no one agrees!

I'm pretty sure when she chopped a lot of it several months ago she had it done professionally.
I wish DH and I were talented enough to trim each others' hair. I hate paying a bunch of money just for a trim.
Honestly her hair looks pretty decent, it's not like he's butchering the hell out of it. If he was I would totally agree with you giving them the pukey face. Personally I see no reason to judge them wanting to save money. They live in Richmond which is a moderate to high COL so if she trims her hair every 6 weeks she could easily spend $75 to $100 for a basic wash/dry/trim. So if you consider it they are saving roughly $750/year by him trimming her hair for her, I wouldn't consider $750 being ridiculously cheap. It seams cheap on the small scale, but you have to look at the bigger picture.
TJ's hair cuts were costing $45 for a wash and cut, his hair grows ridiculously fast so it needs to be cut every 3-4 weeks, we bought trimmers for $50 so this year we will save $625 by me cutting his hair.
Even having her hair cut at home doesn't make me want to vom. I'm fairly certain DH could probably do an OK job cutting my hair, but I don't pay so much that I feel it's necessary.
I frequently cut DH's hair but I wouldn't let him anywhere near mine. It's a little odd that John cuts Sherry's hair but not gross by any means. Her hair is long and straight so it wouldn't be that hard to do a simple trim. I don't have an issue with them saving money this way. Frankendoors, yes. At home haircuts, no.
When my hair was long I used to trim it myself and have my dad/mom/sister/h straighten the back. It's really not that difficult if you have long, straight, unlayered hair. And I trimmed it way more often than when I pay to get it trimmed, so it was healthier!
