Our dryer died on us, and we have to get a new one. I went to Lowes just to get a sense of what's out there and the salesperson tried to say that it's really choosing the washer that's the more important part of the duo, because the better washer you have, the less work the dryer has to do.
I'm don't really want a new washer, but I know convincing DH not to get a set will be hard. That said, does anybody have any dryer recommendations. We'll probably go for middle of the road, not the best and not the worst (at least that's my plan). TIA.

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio set. I love it and the dryer works amazingly well. I agree with the sales-person actually. A dryer spins and dries clothes - they all have essentially the same function. Some have more bells and whistles (like steam dry or whatever) than others, but overall, yes, the washer has more to do with how much energy you use than the dryer.
Personally, I'd get the largest capacity dryer you can find that fits in your space. The bigger the capacity, the less wrinkled the clothes come out, IME.

Thanks ladies. He did point me towards the Whirlpool Cabrio, and to see that you've had good results with that is good. My aunt has an LG set that she likes, so I may see what model she has.

I don't know if space is an issue for you or not. But if it is (or if you have an older house with smaller doorways) be sure to measure before you pick out your dryer. Our Cabrio is the extra-super-high-capacity version (LOL, I have no idea what they actually call it) and it measures 29" wide (which is bigger than the norm) - we had to take our door frame completely off in order to get it into the laundry room. Just an FYI.

Thanks. He showed me the 4.6 one. I don't think we'll have an issue getting it in the door, but it actually wouldn't be a bad idea if we had to take the door off and toss it. Our dog destroyed it when he was a puppy, and it definitely needs to be replaced (we just weren't in a rush).

We ended up going with a Samsung. We got it from HHGregg for a really good price. A new one was $629, which was a little over what we wanted to pay, though they were willing to negotiate and we were willing to go up a bit. Then he realized he had an open box one for the same model for $450. You can't beat that price for the machine.
