I'm upset and confused because I thought running was safe. He said it is way to hard on the body. Maybe he rather have me be safe then sorry since this is not my first its my 4th. He said I could walk and still do spin.
Has anyone deferred a Disney race? I'm going to even more upset if I can't do that and loose all that money

Weird. Did you have the same OB for your previous pregnancies, and did you run then? My OB was fine with running as long as I didn't push myself too much.

Yes I did. I wasn't a runner with DS 14 years ago. DD1 I was but had spotting issues every time I ran so I couldn't with her and with DD2 I really wasn't running again yet because I got PG w/her withDD1 was 6months. I walked instead.
So far on my runs I haven't had any issues no spotting, cramps not even sore afterwards. I was really hopefully I could do this at least till my half 9/1.
Um...why? You've been running, right? If you haven't had any issues, I seriously question this. In fact, I'd be looking for a new OB, because is he also going to tell you not to lift anything over 10 pounds or lift your arms above your head so the cord doesn't tangle?
I was told not to run for the first 10 weeks when I was pregnant. However, I had recently miscarried and my RE was being very overprotective of me. Once I passed 10 weeks, he allowed me to run, but I was not allowed to add to my base mileage. Turns out, running while pregnant wasn't great for me because I had to constantly pee. I still lifted, did spin class, the elliptical, etc.
Wow. When I was pg, my OB had no problem with running, even when I was supposed to be on pelvic rest. I was told t go by how I felt and to stop immediately if I had any spotting or other issues.
Do you love your OB? Because if I were you, I might decide that I loved running more...
I think the important follow-up question would be "Do you give this advice to everyone or is there something specific about me and my case that makes you think I shouldn't run?"
Clearly, if you ask for enough opinions, you will get the answer you are looking for, but this guy is familiar with your history. He may be considering some detail that is not glaringly obvious when making that call.
ETA: I, too, would be hugely disappointed and maybe annoyed, but it is still important to understand if there was a reason that you were given that advice.
I totally agree with Brit...is he giving you across the board direction? Or is there something specific to you that he is concerned about.
I know what other people do doesn't matter to your pregnancy, but I was encouraged to run by all my health care professionals (OB, NP, and MFM) until I had to stop around 20 weeks because of cervix issues. I know a lot of women who carry twins are told to do absolutely nothing, but I don't agree with just saying no straight up for no other reason than it's what they say to everyone.
If you do decide to stop, just know that it really is a short time in your life. It's REALLY hard to stop and be not doing the things you love. I had a very hard time with becoming okay with no longer running and then eventually being on bed rest and doing absolutely nothing. What helped me was telling myself that it's temporary and my body was not mine during that time.
Well, if you spotted every time you ran during the one pregnancy in which you were running, that advice seems pretty logical.
This is where I'm at.
:^) It sounds like the advice is due to case history, as opposed to outdated advice.
After letting it sink in I think it does have to do with my history. I love my OB and I have been seeing him for over 20years and I have had complications in the past and I know he is just keeping my best interest in mind.
He said I could do anything as long as it wasn't high impact.
I'm still wondering why, if you haven't had any issues during *this* pregnancy while running, why he's telling you to stop, that's all. I would understand if you had spotting/bleeding issues already, but you obviously know every pregnancy is different.

Hugs It's a tough pill to swallow. I completely understand, when I was told to stop running at 25 weeks, it took me a while to get over it. I was mopey for weeks. Are there any fun classes you've been meaning to sign up for, but never had the time?
I was thinking I would do spin a couple times more a week now and I do have a swimming pool and I can start swimming once it warms up a little bit more.

Regardless, I'd ask him anyway.
I will and he did explain himself and but when he said I couldn't run I couldn't pay attention my mind went else where. Like oh shit what about my races.. What am I going to do..
How do sell a bib? put it on Craigslist or something?
I'm starting on facebook, since I don't live in California. I'll have to give someone my id copy to pick it up and I'm not keen on doing that with someone on CL. If I can't find someone I "know", I'll just eat it.
how far along are you? i would want the opportunity to try to run - with a heart rate monitor - if it feels fine, it will be fine. if it does not feel fine, you stop and pick another activity.
the rule of thumb when pregnant is to continue with your fitness, not start anything new, and don't do anything extreme.
even my doctors supported me running through my pregnancy and i had twins (which made me "high risk")
When's the Disney race? I might want to buy a bib. But you'll be stuck with my slow time and I am hoping to be pregnant soon. Still, I am interested. I'm assuming it is CA Disney.

The Disney half on 9/1.
And after reading the costume run site I can't defer that either. That's on 7/1 in SD. This one I only paid $65 for so it doesn't bother me as much as the Disney half.

I may be able to help you on the costume run. Do you want to defer to next year or try to sell it?

I think sell it first. The baby will only be 6 months by that time next year and I don't think I could be ready to run a half by then.
