None of my bedroom or closet doors are painted. I want to paint them and had bought a gallon of semi gloss paint but now I'm overthinking and wondering what the norm is for doors. Semi gloss or high gloss?
We haven't done it yet, but when we replace all the interior doors I plan to do them in the same semi-gloss that I've been using as I paint our trim white. I think semi-gloss trim next to high gloss doors would look weird, and I'm already onboard the semi-gloss trim train.
I used high gloss on my gray kitchen cabinets. While I like how durable it is, I prefer the semi-gloss look.
I used semi on all of our doors, trim, windows, etc. I think semi is still quite glossy, and definitely wouldn't go to high gloss on doors because it's already hard enough to avoid brush/roller marks. I think the high gloss would accentuate it further.

I realize I'm late to this party, but the only time I'd use high-gloss on anything is if a) the surface were factory-new and b) I'm using a paint sprayer. High gloss just shows surface imperfections or paint imperfections too much. Semi-gloss is *far* more forgiving.
I was just talking to the painter I hired about this. He told me high gloss is pretty much for what Mrs. K described or for little things like pictures frames. He said it's too hard to get right except in certain circumstances. I thought I wanted high gloss for all my exterior doors and he said I'd be much happier with the results and durabality of semi-gloss and the difference isn't that much anyways. He also said something about the film on gloss can start to flake off before the actual paint, so it doesn't always look good. He said lower end brands were notorious for this in his opinion. I'll take his word for it. he did a great job the first time on my house.
