His guys finished the installation, so he showed up to start the finish coats. He acted like we had some nerve, because we had put the bed back in the bedroom, along with the TV and the dog crate last night. And remember, he wasn't supposed to be here until tomorrow morning.
Then he acted like I was supposed to move them out myself. Thankfully, our contractor had sent a couple of guys to work on a couple of small jobs, and they helped me move the stuff.
We moved the brand new super gigantic TV into the bathroom, and the guy's assistant was going to put the closet doors from all over the house in there next to it. Uh...no.
They started to vacuum with a shop vac that left grit on the floor, pulled up the protective paper everywhere, said not to let anyone walk on his floor, then left for an hour. That meant that the bathrooms were off limits.
They just got back with a better vacuum, and they were going to use the sink in the bathroom (just beyond the TV) to dampen a dusting cloth. They were nice when I asked them to use the kitchen sink and not have water around/on the TV, but why didn't they think of that?
The installers were really great. Nice guys who work quickly and know their stuff. Friendly, polite...really nice to have around.
The flooring guy knows his stuff. He just has no people skills and he seems to have something to prove. Whatever. At least the floor is getting done, and it might actually be finished before the weekend is over.
In other house related news, we suspect that there is no insulation in the exterior walls. *sigh*
The roof was insulated, but not well, so we took care of that when the roof was done. I guess we need to add 'insulate the walls' to the to do list.

Wow, I'm surprised that they told you that you could move your furniture (even the dog crate) back into a room with installed, but not finished floors. Most flooring guys would have told you not to do that. I guess since the install guys were different from the finisher that's probably where you weren't told to stay off the floors completely - even furniture until the install was done, but since they weren't finished yet, maybe that's ok. Ours were done without a break.
Oh and be prepared, after the finish is complete, we had to stay off (no walking, furniture, etc.) for 3-4 days to let them cure. We stayed elsewhere.
But the balking at helping you move furniture is just rude.
Actually, the flooring was covered and it was a mattress and box...not exactly furniture. They actually told us that it wouldn't be a problem, since they were going to have to vacuum and wipe off the floor before applying the finish, and all we were doing was sleeping and watching TV there. We didn't even let the dogs walk in there.
The coating is safe to walk on/recoat in two hours but the suggestion is to wait overnight to actually use the space. It is a water based coating that we are supposed to apply every year or so. It goes on like floor wax and smells similar. Not bad.
Oh yeah, if they are prefinished, but just need a top coat, that's totally different. So glad you won't have to be out for 3-4 days.
They aren't prefinished...just an eco friendly water based finish that had everyone marvelling at the lack of sickening fumes.
After two coats, the smell is starting to bug me a little, but not making me sick...I just don't love it. It smells kind of like a mild cleaning spray or floor wax.
