My downstairs flooded last month right when I was in the process of cleaning out my place so I can sell it. Today DS#1 and I finally got around to buying the new carpet pad and siding, so DS#1 and I went to Lowe's this afternoon.
A few months ago (before the flooding fiasco), my realtor made a tour of my house and gave me a "honey do" list of things that could be done to spiff up my house. I had talked to DS#1 for advice on how to choose a contractor and what would be a reasonable price to get the work done. He didn't want to do the work himself because his job kept him so busy--even on weekends.
BUT he gave notice at his joh, and his last day is this coming Friday, so he has agreed to do the work for me. Yay! So while we were at Lowe's buying carpet pad, we also got brushed nickel light fixtures and door knobs, paint, and other items for the "honey do".
DS was like a kid a candy store. Before we went to Lowe's I had told him I couldn't pay him cash for his labor ($25/hour) until mid-July. But while we were in the store he spotted this large tool thingamajig that cost close to $600 so I told him I could get that for him, which he'll be able to use at his new job (wherever that will be), and he could apply the purchase price to his labor bill.
So we've agreed that he'll have everything done NO LATER than the first weekend in July because that's when I want to put the "for sale" sign up. He assured me he could do that and that he'd probably get it done before then.
I'm all happy about this turn of events. I'd much prefer that he do the work rather than a contractor, plus I'm getting the ball rolling on selling my place, and I know he's happy he'll have something to do for the next few weekends.

Okay, it's a set of 20 volt lithium ion cordless tools from DeWalt. It has a circular saw, respricating saw, impact driver, driller/hammer combo and a flashlight.

Thanks for getting that info. That's so fucking hardcore. You're a good mom!
The set is coming out what he'll be charging me for labor and he said he may wind up owing me some money. lol
It's better for both of us right now if I charge the materials expense on my AMEX this month rather than wait until mid-July to pay him the cash for his work.

It's awesome to have a son who can do this kind of stuff. Honestly I don't know what I would have done if it wasn't for him. He loves to help his old ma out.

That makes sense. I'd say you're both getting a good deal! You'll have your house ready for sale, and he'll be well on his way to setting up a nice little tool kit for doing other repairs.
Oh yes, if he had a tail, it would have been wagging today when we picked it up. lol. It was cute. But he didn't gloat over it for long. He was back at pulling TWO bit carts around Lowe's with the carpet pad and paint and everything else, while I trailed behind with my little cart full of light fixtures. He's a good kid. : ) I'm very proud of him.
