We are building and today we looked at appliances and plumbing fixtures for the first time. The shower we want has a remote. A frigging remote. I fear for our budget.

We had one at our old house (we gutted the bathroom in early 2010). We both absolutely loved it. So much easier to clean and better looking than a jetted tub.
The only down side was it did get gunked up some. I would occasionally go in there and clean out the air holes with a toothpick. You can avoid having to do that if you make sure to run the drying cycle after every time there's water in the tub. Ours ran the drying cycle (it just runs a bunch of air through the holes to dry it out) automatically after you used the air tub feature, but if you just took a regular bath, then you'd have to remember to run it yourself (and DH never remembered).
But, even with that, SO much easier to keep clean than our current nasty jacuzzi tub!
