After spending last week at a Westin, we fell in love with their "Heavenly Bed". We really need a new mattress and I just checked the prices and was surprised to see they are really not that expensive ($1,700 for king).

I've been curious about this too. I've even stripped down hotel beds to try to answer this question. I think hotels that have premium bedding spend more money on the top-dressing than on the mattress itself. The mattresses are firm, but a lot of the softness comes from layers on TOP of the mattress. I travel a lot, but my favorite bed is at home. No matter how good a hotel bed is, nothing beats my own. Including Westin, Waldorf, Loews, and Ritz-Carlton.

I agree but our bed at home is shot so we need a new mattress regardless. This one was just extra comfy with the right amount of cushiness. The 17 layers of bazillion count thread 100% egyptian cotton sheets didn't hurt either!!! I'm usually up early on vacation since my favorite time on the beach is early before it gets crowded and I found myself so comfy every morning that I didn't want to get out of bed!!!
