What would you do with this house? It's a rental but we are allowed to plant flowers and such. We don't want to spend a ton but we'd like to brighten it up.

Thanks guys we submitted our application and we are still waiting to hear on it. So hopefully we get it! We were thinking about three large planters stair stepped in front of the windows. Similar to the picture I have a little post a friend made to put a welcome sign on and we were going to put a colorful pot of plants by that. Sounds like our ideas are similar and I'm on the right track

So big pots like we wanted to do are crazy expensive. So it will probably be cheaper just to plant in the ground and leave it. We will enjoy it while we are there which will be several years until we buy.

I dont think its a waste to plant in a rental home. I really enjoy the colors of plants/flowers and it would be worth it to me to spend like $100 on plants even if the rental is only for a year. There are a lot of decent plants at like Home Depot or Menards for the $10 range that are perennials. Not sure what climate you are in but I bought 2 rose bushes for like $6 each and they do phenomenal and are beautiful. I've had good luck with a lilac bush. I bought a 1-gal size and it has grown very quickly. I've just started with a lot of 1-2 gallon size plants since they are not expensive because I figure some color is better than none!
I would also consider some hanging plants along the sidewalk. You can do them on shepard hooks placed in the grass.
