My little dd just figured out how to balance/push on her balance bike. Before that she was just walking with it. I'm surprised at how fast she cruises with it.
Very cute!!! Adorable kid and adorable bike too! No training wheels? Is that one of those bikes with no pedals?
Yes - no training wheels & no pedals. They are called balance bikes, and are supposed to make the transition to a regular bike easier (we shall see!).
One of the little boys across the street has one of these. He was zipping all over the place on it, and now, not even yet three, he's pedaling all over the place on a regular bike, without training wheels.
pixy0stix & clseale - they are awesome! She was just sort of walking it around yesterday, but had a few seconds of coasting a bit. I can imagine her zipping around before I am ready!

So cute! We swear by balance bikes. DS started on one when he turned 2 and was riding a 2-wheeler by 3. He can now bike up to 3 miles and DH goes running while DS bikes beside him. DD has just started on it in the past few weeks (2 1/4).
coconutbug it's a Haro Z10 - we got it at Sports Systems. The seat adjusts way way down which is nice, but it may still be a little tall for your littlest guy.
RoryGilmore that is fantastic, and is exactly what I'm hoping for. In my meticulously planned future (lol, right), DD will hopefully be riding a 2-wheeler in time for baby #2 to be in the bob so that I can run with both of them (at least short runs) without having to buy a duallie!
MrsE they move themselves by pushing off the ground with their feet, and then as they develop balance they can lift their feet up and glide. If they want to stop, they just put their feet down.
I think it sort of evolves. My DD is 28 months, and in her first "ride" (lol) she mostly just walked around with it in between her legs. She had a few seconds where she seemed to get it and glide a bit, so I expect her to pick it up more and more over time. It's amazing how quickly they can pick things up!

so far we have only done the pedal bike w/ training wheels around age 3 (and they don't really "get it" until 4) but every kid we know that had a balance bike has been riding training wheel free on a regular bike since age 3-3.5! crazy! i have always had another younger and slower kid and/or a stroller so it kind of works in my favor that they are a little slower so i can keep up, lol!
