We were looking for a non-toxic option. Vinegar KILLS weed killer (lol!). Weeds were wilting within a few hours, rather than the days it takes to see results with Roundup. Be careful though - vinegar will kill the grass, too.
I actually had read this when I was researching how to get rid of thistle. I'm convinced it's the worst weed ever. Did you use grocery store grade vinegar or get a more caustic type? The more caustic type sounds intimidating.

Just plain old white vinegar from the grocery store in a spray bottle.
Yes it works but I much prefer to just pull weeds. It damages your lawn less and they don't come back like they sometimes do with spray methods. I just bought one of these to help pull weeds really fast: store.whygoodnature.com/speedy-weedy/ (It's cheaper other locations but this one has a video of how to use it.) It also helps aerate our lawn which we need anyway.
Bravo to everyone trying to stop or limit their use of chemicals all over their lawns! :Y: Our lawn is more weeds than grass unfortunately but we're right next to the ponds and I don't like using chemicals. Unlike the majority of homeowners we get to see the affects of chemical and fertilizer use on aquatic wildlife first hand.
I'm also buying some corn gluten meal this week to put on the lawn as an organic weed and feed. It stops weed seeds from germinating but you can't over seed your grass until later in the year when you do that. Here's a good source for simple organic lawn care on what to do each month with your lawn if anyone is interested: www.healthylawnteam.org/resources.htm
