So, I started Paleo last week, Primal really because I still had a lot of dairy in the house to finish off which was gone by Thursday I think. Anyway, I weighed in last Monday on Day 1 of my period, so I knew it would be slightly high, but then weighed in today and it showed a total weight loss of 10.8lbs! I mean, I have it to lose (would like to still lose 30 more) but that just seems like too much too fast. Do you think it's okay or should I maybe make an effort to somehow slow things down, though I'm not sure how.
And FTR, my exercise wasn't crazy over the top or anything. I think I did 3 circuit workouts, 1 run and 1 bike ride last week.
It's water weight. Add the exta water that you retain to the normal amount of water lost when you eliminate most carbs from your diet and that's going to most of your weight loss right there.
Your will drop weight quickly when you start any new activity/diet. 10.8 lbs is a lot, but not uncommon, particularly if you were eating lots of processed foods/grains before starting. I'm usually up a bit from bloating when my period starts, then it goes away within a few days, so that might be part of it, too.
Your loss will slow as your body adjusts. Just stick with it!
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. - Bruce Lee
I posted about something similar last thursday. Started lower-carb, no crap on Monday, down 8 lbs by thursday. On friday, it started to creep back up, total wt loss for a week = around 5 lbs. If you had period weight to lose as well, I can see where your number came from. It's nice to see, but don't worry too much about it - it will even out over the next week or two.
