The plan that I am loosely following has a lot of hill runs. I have fairly good body mechanics when running up and down hills (thanks to my NNJ roots), but I'm not quite sure how to execute the hill runs. Like level of effort? Just how many hills counts as a hill run anyway? Anyone want to weigh in on this?
Like '6 miles hills' what are they looking for? My last plan had total uphill time. Much more prescriptive.
I would think "XX miles of hills" just means XX miles of non-flats. I would probably just take it to the trails so that I can get a good mixture of different grades and distances.
The effort when hill running depends on the size of a hill. Sorta like you would not sprint a mile, you would not push super hard up a large hill. I think it is also very important that you dont over-extend yourself going up because guess what? The downhill is important too!! If you get too tired running up, it makes you slower running down. I see this a lot in cycling, people get to the top of the hill and stop peddling, lol. Anyway, in your practices, you will be able to play around with different levels of exertion and find out what works for you. It's definitely a personal thing.
